That's not true at all. I use Google Voice as my main, and almost all (like 95%) of my verification codes come through with no issue at all. And even when there's an issue with receiving it as a text, you can still opt to get it as a voice call instead.

A minor inconvenience for the savings I've gotten over the years using this setup.
For you maybe- not me... however, 2fa is going away...and agreed- some give voice call, email, and click notification options. But some places don't even let you sign up if they can't confirm it's a cell number.

I don't think anyone stays after 3 months, they should just do $20 like visible

They won't be bought by TMo for 1.35 billion if that was true.

Note that after the first 3-month promotional rate your rate goes to $40/month if you pay 3 months in advance. The rate is $30/month for unlimited only if you pay for 12 months in advance.

except 2fa often only works on cellular number...for those with many banking, gambling, etc.accounts.
I've had zero trouble with 2FA on Google Voice the past three years. I haven't tried gambling, though. For that one off, just remember to use burner SIM.

I will say it has other annoyances. I once was banned, deemed a spam user, and had to appeal two times. The spam decision was because I signed up for some marketing texts where the store asked you to copy and paste a message to them. I almost lost my phone number I had for two decades.

I did the 3 months unlimited for $45, then dropped to the 5GB plan and paid for that. Now I have enough in referral credits that my next 12 months of the 15GB plan will be free. While the 5GB plan may not have been the best deal, my cost over the full duration will be cheaper than Visible.

I need a SIM card for my car using maybe 5 minutes or less of phone calls per months and 1GB of data. Is there any cheap plans basically just to keep a number alive like $2/mo?
If you don't need data, TextNow has ad supported unlimited talk and text for free. SIM card is $5, but goes on sale for $1.

what do you guys do after 3m or 6m? port out to another carrier or just pay the higher price?
I just renewed my Mint Mobile plan after my $45 for 3 months promo ended. Mint offers existing customers a promo when you call to port your number: 50% off for 6 months unlimited and 33% off for a 12-month renewal to encourage you to stay with them.

Silly logistical question: Does this promo rate apply if you're starting an account with two phones, rather than just one? That is, I'm getting my in laws out of postpaid hell and into a budget carrier, but they're gonna want to have just one account. I assume that I could just order two SIM cards at $45 each for unlimited data promo and it applies to both of them since they're both new customers?

Also, my wife is still on Mint. Does her referral bonus still work with this? Does it count as one referral in the scenario I described (both in laws on the same account)?

Also, what's this free MINTech activation support that shows up at checkout?

Thanks!

Ultra and Mint are owned by TMO now, and Ultra still has the PayGo plan, it's what I use for the glove box phone.

I thought Mint was bought by the Green Lantern Guy/Deadpool?

Yes, the referral will work with this promotion. I don't know for sure, but I think if you put them in the same account, it will be just one.

I have 4 lines switched to mint buy 3 mo get 3mo free deal and I had tmobile before. Lower 240p stream video quality and all 4 ofbusnfeel we get throttled a lot more than with Tmobile. Going to a restaurant means slow data. And slower at work too. So Tmobile is deprioritizing mint traffic. I'll switch back to tmobile after trial ends.
