Call it marketing but fun with parents is memories created and tends to stick with you. Who cares where it comes from. Win win for both parties for free .

Loved these when my daughter was younger, but note to parents. WHO CARES WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, LET THE KID DO IT.

It was so annoying to see parents literally take over the whole project to make it perfect, while the kid sat and watched.

Had so much fun watching my daughter develop hand-eye coordinator, strength, painting skills, etc. I often ended up with paint up to my elbows as I was the "holder" of items while she painted, but I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

When it was all said and done, she had nearly 50 "completed" pins!

Didn't know Lowe's also has a Kid's workshop. Anyone has experience with it?
Lowe's is great too. They use stickers rather than painting the HD builds. Lowe's tends to honor time slot reservations vs HD first come first serve. YMMV.😀

For Home Depot, any age is welcome. Parents can assist if needed. Our kids love these building events.
These are wonderful, we have been going since my oldest was about 3. VERY inviting, open to everyone but try to get there early as they can run out of kits, my wife has taken the little ones by herself and she loved it and I think she had never been into a Home Depot in her life.

Pro tip, when hammering put the item on the floor vs trying to hammer in on the plastic table that bounces haha. They give you a little Home Depot apron and pins for each project and the kids love that.

do we need to register upfront or is it fcfs at the store?
I have registered in the past and got the kits(no grandkids with me). My local HD change the rules. You need to show up with the kids to get the kits before NOON register or not. After 12:00pm if there is any kits left, you can have one.

I took my almost 3 year old to the gingerbread house one and she was probably the youngest one there. I had to guide and help her a lot but she had a really good time and no one batted an eye at her age.

yes, reservations are somewhat useless as they never seem to ask if i've registered - and don't save kits for you even within 9-12

that being said - even when they run out of popular kits they always seem to have some old ones laying around - so if you go closer to 12 you might be building a thanksgiving thing in february but the kids don't seem to mind

I started my DD at 3, initially with lots and lots of help. She started with learning to read the directions and pulling the right parts. Now at 4.5 she really knows her way around a hammer and does the majority on her own, although I generally have to start the nails (small tap), am holder of parts being painted and have to help with only to most tricky builds .

I think my older boys were completely on their own between 5-6 although every kid is different. in their day HD didn't have paint and Lowe's didn't do kits. It was awesome for me to just sit back and watch.

Her 2yo brother has been to a few and we've been able to make it mostly work with him.

One tip to keep it as positive an experience as possible, if they start fussing you can always take the kit home to finish. If they don't like it at all, I'd recommend conning back when they are able to do it to their satisfaction.

Is there a way to click on the scan in the preview pic without redirecting me to the site? Thumbnail too small to see the rest of the projects
The link was in the OP but it is different now. This shows the full '24 schedules https://postimg.cc/gallery/TdVBLMZ

Not at the stores around us, we had to ask for them.

Stupid comment.
Agreed. We started doing these events around 6 months ago and have asked several times at both HD and Lowes, but neither store has had the aprons in stock, so I think being handed an apron might be a YMMV thing based on your store.

with lowes you have to register for a slot and they honor that. They tend to get full really quick.

with home depot the registration isn't a guarantee that you'll get it. I'm in the San Francisco area and they run out of kits REALLY early. The gingerbread house one was gone in the first 30 minutes or so.

As far as what I read here, registering dont mean much, I did register though. I wonder whether they start giving out the kits before 9:00am? I will try to arrive early but not before 9..

Also, I will bring my kid with me but wont have time to finish. Do we have to stay for the entire workshop?

Some HD stores might let you get them early. I don't register and usually get there by 10 or so and haven't had any issues.
The Lowe's by me are sticklers for being pre-registered.
You don't have to be there the whole time, you can come and go as you please. Most kits take about 20-30min to complete if you don't paint it. Plan to double the time if you do paint it.

They'll also let you take one home without building it in the store.

If you attend the Lowes workshops you can get 12 badges to get a free mini tool box. It actually doesn't matter if you have badges but it does matter if the employee checks you into their system. That's what my store tells us but we save the badges too because that's what the official rules say.

I'm hearing that since Kids are now used to Chromebook and MacBook during school/college days the sales for Windows laptops are in a decline since when they grow up, they prefer those ecosystems that are familiar. So Catch them Young seems to work well.
There's also the fact that both those operating systems are specifically designed to be easy to use. We can't exactly say that for windows.

Been going for these with my toddler daughter from past year and I must say these are pretty fun. At first I used to help her build but now as she is growing big, I can clearly see how well she is getting with hammering, tightening, applying glue, coloring the pieces/hands/dress or even applying the stickers! She now recognizes the home depot logo, but the fun and memories we make there for 2 hours is so worth it. Our first Saturday carpentry date is what we like to call it!
