Check your electricity bill to see what is your usage for a month divided by number of days then you get rough estimate how much per day
buy this https://www.amazon.com/Energy-Monitoring-Continuous-Certified-Package/dp/B0CLVRZ2QL/ref=sr_1_6?crid=... [amazon.com] or search Emporia smart plug to see specific usage for device that can be plug in like router, fridge, microwave. This device can be seen real time usage so you can see surge power and regular power
Or buy this https://www.amazon.com/Emporia-Monitor-Circuit-Electricity-Metering/dp/B08CJGPHL9/ref=sr_1_5?crid=19... [amazon.com] to see power consumption for each line coming from your electrical panel for stuff cant be plug in like HVAC/sump pump

Or just buy this bundle and you will see all information above. This bundle has no limitation in term of power. It should cover 99% of your power need. You can always upgrade capacity later by buying more batteries. You should install all circuit in your house but only turn on 1-2 essential as you proceed along this line.

I am just a number nerd so I like to look at data/number
I just use a nuclear powered reactor from a Typhoon class submarine that I bought at auction. It's a little cheaper than Eco flow but shaves some years off of your life. In the end, I think it's worth it.
A 4-ton air conditioner (48,000 BTU) typically uses around 6,000–6,500 watts to start up and 3,000–3,500 watts to run continuously. So you have less than 3 hours run time on a 10kw battery backup. I would definitely go with a Generac for continuous power if running the a/c is important to you.

I have delta pro and shp1. This is only 6kwh, each battery gives you 6kwh. You can buy one first and add more battery later. Thats the great part about it.
Shp is good because it's automatically switch to Ecoflow battery if grid is down. You can even schedule time to charge with grid/solar to use it at night daily
No one has real world experience with this yet.

Fear mongering?! Get outa here with your ridiculous off topic labeling. There was nothing about fear. It is a legit concern. Even for Lifepo4 batteries. Not to mention the great trend of "sustainable " energy source of which most are in fact unsustainable and toxic and harmful for the environment. Just saying there's more facts to everything than just marketing nonsense. It's not fear mongering. Called a discussion.
But you are. Panels with battery back up produce way, way, way, way, way, way, way, less pollution. It isn't even close.

There is almost no publication that takes a comprehensive analysis of impacts across wide range of industries and categories and environments.
So your statement is maybe correct maybe not. I think efficient solar panels with least toxic batteries such as lifepo4 might be a potential good option today. I am not sure since an analysis is not available of let's say a 90% adoption of such an approach to prove if it would be less toxic and more efficient and feasible and sustainable,. In my head I'd love such an implementation in my house. But it is always fair to ask questions about these things because there is a lot of gaps in the current rushed approach with the environmentally friendly movements which mostly seek to restrict and expand monopolies vs actually solving for pollution.

This or a generac for 2x more?

Will this give me enough power for the core home essentials and how long?

Why is ecoflow all over SD the past few weeks? Also seeing a lot of complaints about their refurbs, making me think QC sucks?

Anyone use this system and can share real world experience with what you run and for how long?

Smart panel necessary? I can certainly plug it into my transfer switch on my own.
I love my Generac . Works fantastic

This is what I do

Two small tri fuel generators that can be run individually or parallel. 6kw inverter with 9kw peak surge. 13kwh of lifepo4

I need about 2000 watts to run my house without AC (I have natural gas). The battery bank and inverter can run me for several hours - nighttime use can drop to the 300 watt range.

If I need ac I can lock my inverter drives (2 and 4 ton) units to 50% capacity. I run one or two generators (as needed) to top off my bank and or support the AC running.

So in essence my inverter and bank acts as a buffer and my small tri-fuels can be used to trickle charge the bank. If I need more charge I spin up the second generator

Ecoflow has atrocious customer service. FYI expect to get screwed if you're not a social media influencer.

Yes, that's one of the reasons that I'm looking at installing this (with my already installed solar). Costs in CA triple in the evening (from $0.2/kWHr to $0.6/kWHr). There are some good videos that describe this exact scenario as well.
But can the SHP2 handle whole home load or just some essential circuits? From the limited knowledge I have, the panel is not a full panel and has limited space for breakers even though it's 100amp right? If that's the case, it's not ideal for peak shaving. I'm also looking at peak shaving options...wish V2H were further along than it is now a days.

Sounds familiar. Google USS Indianapolis, Kauai, Hurricane Iwa, November 1982. Didn't exactly power the island, but used to restart the island power plant.

If you are going to invest in a whole house battery back up you can get waaay more for less. For comparison, an eG4 100ah battery is $1.4k, that leaves you with enough $$$$ to get a real hybrid inverter and more batteries. Only downside of a proper backup is they are not very convenient to move to like this overpriced units.
I've been looking into the EG4 as a home backup/peak shaving solution. When I try to research, all I find are solar setups. I'm wondering if it has smart panel features like auto peak shaving, auto transfer, etc. I can't seem to find much about this particular use case. Anything you have found to point to? Thanks.

Some may consider the fact you have install and connect it all together a downside.

When comparing these to something like a Powerwall, just remember the IRS says if the battery is configured to be 100% powered by solar then it is eligible for ITC. Consult your tax professional for more info.

Don't you have to install and connect this one too?

We use anywhere from 1,000 to 2,500 kWh per month here in Florida for a modestly sized house. Would need 7 of these to keep things running for a day even during the winter without the AC running.

Better to just buy a vehicle-to-grid capable EV with 100 kWh battery and get a lot more bang for your buck if you intend to build a whole house backup.
Yeah same for me. I keep trying to price out what I would need to survive a summer here in Florida based on those same numbers and it's very disheartening. Right now I'm focused on bringing those total kwh down before I invest in a big project like this or solar. And hopefully by the time I do all these prices will be quite a bit lower.

Never actually thought about buying an EV to use as a backup. Still pretty costly but I could at least get more use out of that.
