These sell for $49.99 and sometimes as low as $37.50 when Cold Steel and SOG have their 25 percent off promos, which happens about once a month.

When it gets down to that 37 Mark you make a post sir, youre Mr knife deals on here Smilie

Why unfortunately for aus10 steel ? Maybe fortunately because it is a good steel, performs well (for the price), and unlike a $250+ knife, you'll actually use it and not cringe if it gets scratched or shows wear. I'd rather have a aus10 knife in my pocket and being used rather than an expensive knife that simply lives in your collection, forever pristine and will never be used.

I believe cpm154, 154cm and the like are slightly better and I have hundreds of those knives from back when they were cheaper than dirt. I'd rather have same characteristics with better corrosion resistance.

I have had bad luck with aus8 blades snapping so not thrilled with possibility of a less tough version.

And my daily carry is usually a cold steel swift cts xhp which I'd say is so much better than aus8/10 it's not remotely close and that was $55.99 new to me when I purchased several from via different accounts on Woot. So not much more to less than aus10.

I mean if you could buy magnacut for $60 or aus10 for $55 what would you think of aus10?

I have posted the 4 Max Scout and many others in the past. The 4 Max has been down to $49,99 for close to 6 months. About once or twice a month, MidwayUSA will run a 10-25 percent off coupon code for SOG and Cold Steel, so the price on these drops even further. I think the lowest I've heard is the $37.50.

Lol, for a $5 difference in your example question of course I would go for the magnacut. What I pointing towards is more the aus10 being in the under 70 and the super steel knives being in the 250 range. This was the more common price difference when I was really into knives. Also, your experience with aus8 snapping.... Tempering is a very critical part of knife making process and in many opninions, the most meaningful. Often said more meaningful than the steel itself in toughness, edge holding and unfortunately brittleness if done incorrectly. aus8 steel can be plenty tough if tempered correctly and really only looses out to aus10 in edge holding. Hopefully your snapping aus8 knife was a fluke.

Unless I am mistaken, G-10 & Griv-Ex are 2 different materials. The amazon title (and thus this post title) are a little misleading if the amazon description is correct (saying it is Griv-Ex).

Still a great deal - I bought one from Midway a while back but haven't used it yet.

Yeah, the title to this post might be inaccurate, grivex is NOT G10, not even close. The only similarity they have is that they both use glass fibers but that's it. g10 uses fiberglass cloth so directional, uses epoxy (grivex uses nylon) and is pressed during the curing process so the glass content is very high vs epoxy content. Grivex uses nylon with short cut glass fibers for reinforcement, nondirectional and a whole lot more nylon than glass. The two feel completely different with g10 being a lot more ridgid and grippy even when wet. Original poster or mod should change the title to the correct handle material, grivex.

This is a crap deal. Midway USA has it for $49.99 and also a 25% off discount code on the front page of the website.
