Yeah, sounds like they really made it kind of a headache. Even after the $49, it was being sold for $99 plus a plan at both Walmart and the ST website without the extra hoops or verification. Those $99 deals were around for most of December and into January, but were kind of glossed over after the $49 deal. Someone posted it separately from the other thread in mid-December, but it wasn't very well received …

Quite frankly, the only reason this thread has a bad rating is because the OP didn't explain the deal correctly. If not for the extra hassle of the ID/porting hoops, this is a great deal for that family member that barely understands how to use a phone. It has iPhone 13 guts in a familiar iPhone 8 chassis, and should get updates for 5+ years. That's why I bought another, for another luddite family member.
Nope … they were for Staright Talk phones and sold for $99 plus a plan at both Walmart and the Staright Talk website
I don't think you are understanding. Not everyone wants to use Straight Talk. Most people on SD have managed to get good deals on phone service, and don't want to switch. If they buy the phone via Straight Talk, they have to wait 1 year before it will unlock for use on another provider. If you get the Verizon one, it is only 60 days.

Nope, not at all … I've followed these Total / ST / Tracfone deals for a very long time. The Straight Talk phones unlock after 60 days and only one month of active service is needed. I've done it with a dozen or so of them myself in the last year (some purchased from Walmart and some directly from ST) and many, many others have also done it with both the $49 and the $99 ST phones.

Interesting...used to be 1 year. Good to know, thanks!

Yeah, the consolidation among companies has gotten pretty crazy and has lead to a lot of confusion at times. I think there were even reports for a while that SimpleMobile phones could go either way, depending on which SIM happened to be packaged with them.

This is no where near the same as the straight talk deal late last year. I would hold for that deal again. This is a lot of work so only do it if you are desperate
jesus what is it with you guys? op posts a deal and its a good deal if you want or need a phone now right now. not everyone has time to wait until the next deal comes along, whenever that will be. if you don't like the deal quit bitching and just move on with your life.

Lol I know seriously. I appreciate this post even if it's not as good as the last one.
