Manusage Solar Panel The foldable solar panel, which is made of monocrystalline silicon solar cells, uses multi-layered cell technology to generate energy from sunlight and performs better than other traditional panels, with conversion high efficiency of up to 25% compared with the majority of solar panels falling in the 18% to 21% efficiency range.

I bought one of this last year from Amazon for more than $100 and I am quite satisfied with it. This panel put out 72W. That is more than I would expect from a panel rated at 100W when tested in the real world, not the laboratory perfect conditions. Great versatility with multiple adapters for any solar generator. Well engineered and manufactured.

Why couldn't you?

I'm not arguing. I'm just genuinely curious. Is there anything in particular about this solar panel that precludes it from being used for that purpose?

I mean, it's a little bit overkill (I think the products I've seen from places like Harbor Freight that are advertised as items that can be used to charge a car battery have solar panels that only provide something like 2-5 watts), and you may need to add more components (at the very least, a charge controller, I suppose) to the system to make it work properly, but I don't see why this solar panel couldn't be used in such a system.

Hmm, lots of promotional reviews. But it's a solar panel. It'll either work or not. Pair this with a 10 amp MPPT controller and get a 100 watt/8.3 amp (at 12v) system for under $100. Not horrible.

I'm not sure if a controller exists to charge the battery at a higher amperage, then auto switch to trickle charge with a lower amperage.

Yeah that's a good point, and I'm just drawing a blank at the moment. Seems like it shouldn't be too difficult to get something to do that, and I wouldn't think that a higher amperage charging cycle would even matter, and you should be able to just use a trickle charger, but it's late, and I had a couple drinks, and I'm a little bit of an idiot anyway. So, extreme-YMMV. 😄

Given how many Vine reviews there are, it still gets terrible reviews. Stay away! The snaps break, it only gets 50 watts, etc. Also quite heavy at 10 lbs.

Per the product description, this produces ideally 500 watt hours (0.5 kWh) daily. At 10-15 cents, that's 7.5 cents/day at best.

That's about 3 years of daily ideal production to breakeven, I don't even think this product would last that long, even if it does produce that much dependably.

Price has dropped further to $56.20. I agree that it's not sturdy or great for a 100w panel. I have a Renogy solar suitcase that has been going strong for about 6 years now and survived getting flipped over in bad winds and other abuse. If you need a panel for off grid camping, I'd spend more and get something better.

Could be they have an electric car like a Tesla. This might be insufficient for that kind of car. However, if they have a conventional car with a gas/diesel engine and a 12v battery, then I agree with your comment.

In Fresno, CA with PGE, tier 1 power costs 42c/kwh. Tier 2 is 53c/kwh now. Break even is a lot better if your power company is robbing you.

This isn't the kind of solar panel you put in to run your home. This is the kind of solar panel you take with you camping or places you don't have electricity. Your break even calculation is irrelevant for that situation, because there is nobody that will deliver electricity to you for that cost.
