I know you COULD go 2 TB SSD or maybe upgrade to the crazy RAM options (90+ MB)...but this is basically the top Apple laptop out nowadays, right?

Goes up to 128GB of ram and 8TB SSD but yea the Max is their premier laptop.

RAM depends on what you need. I'd even use up 128GB for ML models, but not frequent enough to spend for it.

I don't do much video processing etc, hoping 1TB is enough for local development.

M3 Max is their top processors and comes in 2 flavors. This one is the fastest of all the M3 MAX processors.

At such a high price point, Apple should have just added the 8TB drive as a courtesy. Especially with 1TB being so cheap nowadays. I don't get their logic.

Your job needs to justify the cost. ML and deep learning neural nets need the big guns and the pay is pretty good too.

These are an overkill for an average web developer or app developer.
