Yeah, that's unfortunately that's been in line with my experience as well (and I'm in California where we don't generally get real weather). I've gone the head lamp route others have mentioned.

It's a good light. I bought it a year ago for $29. There's a position relay that shuts it off automatically so batteries last a while.

It absolutely is. We've had one on a Genesis for 4+ years in all four seasons (covered with a Gorilla / NE Ohio).
