It's not necessarily a question of one or the other. It depends on your use case.
If your intention is backup power for your house, a battery/inverter setup will get you through X amount of time (depending on your use and your total capacity), and then a generator like this could be used to top off the battery as needed. Run silent on battery @ night, then top off again during the day (if you don't have solar, or if it's cloudy).
Little generator is as awesome as everyone says. Sitting next to me 10 year old Champion you can easily see the quality difference between a Honda product.
Put 8 hours on the generator and changed the oil. Its ready to go sitting under my work bench ensuring we never have a power outage again (we have them quite often).

Ha, right? Seems like that's how it goes. Next outage will hold out just long enough for most people to have issues getting their new gen started again (for those who got one during or after their last outage & left the carb full of ethanol-blend fuel).
I ran the Honda several times over the weekend - it's a little workhorse. No problem running fridge+furnace and a handful of other stuff in a winter outage situation, all while recharging a battery/inverter @ 600W, with some room to spare. So far it's been consistently starting second pull (first gets things primed) and running flawlessly. No bad output voltage drops when a sudden load is added in Eco mode.
Much quieter unit than the Firman 2000/1600W it's replacing - and that's much appreciated. The Firman gets pretty loud (by comparison) after about 30% load, by about 50% it's louder than the Honda running @ 90% load. The Honda's quiet enough that at ~30% load I forgot it was even running just outside on my deck.

Edit: As for country of origin... it's kind of hard to find, but GeneratorBible indicates Thailand: https://generatorbible.
