That's kind of dumb if you have to pay extra just to drink soda or juice on the ship.

This "sale" isn't really a sale. They have the same "sale" or arithmetically equivalent sale going on at all times. They use price optimization software for the hospitality industry to implement demand pricing. Whatever sale offer de jour they have doesn't matter, the end result of what you pay is dynamically set and will be the same on a given day no matter what the "sale" is.
I upgraded to a full drink package when boarding, they had a deal. It was worth it if you pretty much drink any booze, but also gave you bottled water for taking on excursions, San Pellegrino, fresh OJ, and the coffee bar drinks. I'd get an Americano every morning instead of drinking regular coffee, which wasn't that great. Try some wine with dinner, why not? Aperitif? Try one of those. So I felt like I got my money's worth out of it. But I don't know what it costs on each cruise.
With our cruise-only rates, drinks are available at an extra charge."
Its confusing, is there a distinction for free with meals vs having to pay during non-meal times or something?
