The price has been dropping recently, and has slightly lowered from $78.99 to $78.00 with Prime Shipping.

Kid off to college has one in his car. We had to track his missing truck one night and found it in the impound as he was parked in a tow zone.

Great idea of putting in the shoe. Did you hollow out from the inside? Did you put any over it to not feel the material difference? Reminds me of the Nike run shoes that had a removable foam plug to add in the step counter (before smart watches).
Not exactly. It uses other nearby phones to ping its location. That's the main selling point for these.
At the end of the day, it's all crowd sourcing. So the larger the crowd that uses, the better the network performance. This is why Tile is struggling despite being years ahead of the AirTag. If the users aren't using, the entire framework crumbles.

It's reassuring sitting on a plane and seeing your luggage coming toward your plane knowing its along for the ride with you. We used them a few years ago when airlines were misplacing a lot of check bags in Europe.
You can whitelist locations like home. If you leave your wallet home while walking the dog or running. you won't get the left behind message on your phone.

Most likely if someone steals an item from you, they will be alerted of the airtag.

If they do that enough times, they will locate the AirTag and then remove it.
If the speaker is removed, they will still get the alert that an AirTag is nearby and when they click the 'play sound' button to make it chime...no audio. Therefore more difficult to find/locate the hidden AirTag.
