For $30 this measures like fairly competent $200 speaker, great entry level speaker, w/ a few hair of EQ and a subwoofer and you'll have yourself a $1000+ system.

Amazing price. Don't think you could get real binding posts on a speaker at this price point from a reputable brand. Note these are 4 ohm. Oddly, the B5 with the larger 5.25" woofer has a seemingly worse low frequency response of 61 Hz compared to the B4 with a 4" and 57 Hz. I wonder if someone entered that wrong on the Monoprice website.

I've been debating these stupid things as rear surrounds in a 7.1.4 for weeks now. Anyone have any real world experience? Would the B4s be sufficient for that?

Are they really any better than Dayton Audio B452 that are similarly priced?

Hi , i am pretty new to this audio stuff. I want to build 5.1 home theater system in my basement . By checking few videos I got some knowledge. I got a 5.1 receiver from market place. I want to know :
If I can use any of the above speakers for front, rear and center channels? If so please advise which one . Later on will look for subwoofer. Thanks for anyone who responds

You can absolutely use these for all 5 position in a 5.1 system but keep in mind that a 4" speaker will have more limited range of frequency response than say a 6.5" woofer. You don't even need a specific center channel - any reasonably good speaker can serve as your center speaker. The whole specialized center speaker thing is more of a marketing gimmick, imo. Without a sub though, you won't get a full range of audio from those 4" woofers. I'd recommend getting a cheap sub - 8 or 10" - maybe you can lookup local craigslist. Of course, if you can extend your budget, Monoprice and Dayton Audio have reasonably good bookshelf speakers with larger woofers.

Well, decided to give them a shot. $81 to my door, not bad. Just need a reasonable way to wall mount them.

To clarify, it's the B4s I ordered.

That has to be some error. They are probably rated at different rolloffs. For example, the B5 might be rated at a -6dB level while the B4 might be rated at -10db.

I'd go larger woofer all day, and I'd still plan on wanting a subwoofer.

I'd favor the silk dome of the Monoprice speaker over the Dayton Audio, but then again they aren't similarly priced as the Dayton is about $40 a pair, and the Monoprice is about $40 per speaker. You should expect more for double the price.

Is this similar to Pioneer SP-BS22-LR by Andrew Jones?

Can't speak to the quality of the Audition speakers. The Encore B5s were on sale for about this price for Black Friday, and I'm very happy with them. Should have went for the B6s. I have the T6s for my home theater setup, and they positively STOMP. Don't even need a subwoofer.
