I've heard that the scheduling issues with this CPU have pretty much been fixed and at somewhat close to the price of the ryzen 7 7800x3d (about $55 difference from all-time low here: https://slickdeals.net/f/17315650), I feel like this may be more worth the price for productivity needed tasks as well? The ryzen 9 7950x3d is way over budget and I need an upgrade from my old ryzen 5 3600 CPU. Doing a lot of work with multiple windows open, often do photoshop, lightroom, davinci resolve, but I'll occasionally game here and there and stream (to kick/twitch) with friends and want top performance for that. What do y'all think? Not really interested in going Intel.

This or wait for 9000 series cpu this year.

Not in a rush to building a pc, but slowly gathering parts to finish the build by this end of year.

Just bought the x670e motherboard thats currently on sale for $220 and pretty much has all things I want in a current gen motherboard since i figured the new gen motherboards going to cost more when it gets released with less features than the one that's on sale.

My 2 cents:
Your multitasking is probably fine with going with a cheaper Ryzen 5000 series, which the big highlight was the leap in single core IPC. This way you more than likely can retain use of your AM4 board, but double check and get the BIOS updated.

Davinci Resolve has GPU accelerated encoding, which if you aim for a nvidia GPU you'll get that and also nvenc for streaming without much performance penalty so you are decoupled from CPU. I believe photoshop is also gpu accelerated. If you're solid though on GPU and RAM (probably more important for multi tasking), then yeah take the leap to AM5 Ryzen 7000 series and maybe cannibalize the old AM4 platform for a passthrough streaming PC or NAS.

Wow thanks for the info! I don't think any of the cheaper AM4 CPUs might be worth the upgrade cost from a 3600 and the ryzen 7 5800x3d seems like too much for a small upgrade, but considering having to upgrade mobo, RAM, and maybee my cpu cooler? (arctic liquid freezer ii 240; should be compatible with AM5) that's a lot of money *sweat.

If you are basing the upgrade premiums off the X3D then yeah it'll look large. I think the premiums for the X3D is still too much; but you can find a 5800x non-3D for under 200 which that's still 2c/4T more and a huge uplift in IPC.

9000 series is also expected later this year and we've seen aggressive mobo bundles with the 7000 release. Depending on your appetite for resale, you could opt into the 5800x non-3D for now and resell it for probably 50 under. You are paying for the big boost now, and can still work with it if 7000/9000 doesn't offer better value later during the year.

Ooh I see ty! I'll keep my eye out and try to go for a snag on the 5800x at a good price and definitely wait for EOY or next year to look at a full upgrade Smilie Really appreciate the advice!

Nope, it still need xbox game bar overlay + driver to manually activate in each game and test by yourself, majority of the game favor x3d cores, but some prefer high frequency.

I'm basically in the same exact boat, except in addition to video editing in premier pro and DaVinci, I also need to use Fusion 360 and Blender for 3D modeling.

A I've been thinking that I should go for an x3d version and just deal with a little less multithread ability on productivity. What do you think?

Ah man, I don't do any cool stuff anymore. I'm stuck with my 3600X until it stops seeming awesome for basic gaming and web browsing. 😔

Not that you asked me, but don't bother with X3D unless you want it for gaming.

If you've already got the motherboard, I would get this now and upgrade to the 16 core (or 24 core) Zen 6 when it launches in 2025 or 2026. My guess is that a 9900x will be mostly a side grade to this (slightly faster), but it will probably cost more money (since Intel likely won't have anything to compete at launch) . Regardless, you are smart to get the motherboard on sale now, as the next Gen motherboards are pretty much identical chipsets... Nothing really new.

Not too sure about the programs you use, but I upgraded last year from a 3600 to a 5800X3D and the boost in gaming was pretty substantial. It was enough of a boost that upgrading the mobo, ram, etc would've been a waste of money

Msi x670e gaming plus amd WiFi that I saw on this website a few days ago on Amazon and Newegg.

Don't know why it's not getting popular because it literally is the best bang for buck motherboard in terms of i/o and 4 m.2 slots with no compromises eating into pcie or sata bandwidth.

This motherboard can also be upgraded to run usb 4 when the expansion card is released.
