HP One Agent Software Keeps Reinstalling after Uninstalling

1,104 3,967 March 6, 2024 at 07:10 PM
There is a software or program, HP One Agent, that takes up 753 MB, and after doing some research, I found it unnecessary. I tried to uninstall it, but it keeps reinstalling itself. Does anyone have a solution?

It has its own auto reinstaller. You'll need to get rid of both programs. Check out this forum post for details:

OK here is a secret few people know about, in Windows a folder and file are really the same thing.
So if the software uses a folder called C:\program files\HP\HP one agent\
create a file just called hp one agent and put it in the HP folder, make sure you have show file extensions on and it has no extension. Once you do this no matter what the software cannot create a folder because your file has the same name. Software is smart enough to use an existing folder or for files replace existing files but the folder vs file war is always won by the other item. you could also make a folder called HP one.exe or whatever the name of the exe is!

Try finding and disabling the service.

Services.msc

See if you can find the HP One Agent service (or something similarly named) and then stop it by right-clicking the service and selecting 'stop.'

Then disable the service by right-clicking, selecting 'properties' and then set the startup type to 'disabled.'

Once disabled, uninstall any HP software you don't want. Then reboot. With the service disabled, it shouldn't reinstall.

Note that I don't have any HP stuff so I'm speaking in generalities, meaning this is how you disable services in Windows. There has to be a service registered in Windows to create the behavior you are describing (auto reinstall).

Edit to add - if you want to take it one step further, you can dive into the registry and remove the service registration, but you have to be comfortable with registry editing, very easy to cause more problems than you fix if you don't know what you're doing.
