I maintain 50 small compressors at Stanford University and have used these and several other autodrains. You are probably not going to like hearing the compressor drain every 45 minutes. A once a day timer would be a bit more reasonable. If you leave this device and your compressor plugged in, it will waste power and un-necessarily run your compressor every 45 minutes or less. Not good if you want to leave your compressor plugged in. I suggest leaving it unplugged when you are not using the compressor or plug it into a 7 day timer. Another down-side to auto drains is they can get stuck open and then the compressor runs constantly. I have had pumps and motors burn up because they ran continuously for several days, until someone checked it. It appears this one uses a ball valve, which is less likely to get stuck open.

Good price. Anyone know, could this be setup to drain two tanks at the same time? For example a main compressor with tank and a secondary expansion tank that is shared with the compressors tank.

This seems like a similar generic setup.

https://www.amazon.com/QWORK-Elec...0CBTM2LC6/

Not sure the differences other than name brand. Not sure the function of the clear tubing on the dewalt.

My understand is model numbers that start DXC instead of DW are rebrands and not actually made by dewalt so quality of it is a question.

The clear tubing is so you can divert the rusty water to a safe place to drain. The manifold also has two valves you can turn to manually drain.

I've often wondered why an automatic "passive" valve couldn't exist, that would e.g. rely on something like a float that would be large enough to overcome the pressure in the tank to automatically open without the need for electronics.

The issue is probably because of the pressure difference, if there was safe way to implement it they would have done so but last thing they want is to have a compressors that blow up things around them trying to release that condensation, even 80 PSI is not joke when gets expelled through small opening.
Having aluminum tanks at least helps somewhat against the rust though (from personal experience).

install a tee and run the each drain to the tee, then out of the tee to the autodrain.

Ideally you don't want to get to the point where a float would be needed. There are some auto drains that cycle when the compressor turns off. Harbor Freight sells one for cheap (not sure about the quality). Some higher end compressors like Champion also include cycle operated valves.

I'm not sure if HF still sells that. (Harbor Freight 68244 Automatic Compressor Drain Kit) I couldn't find it. Do you have a link? Amazon sells them though.

I don't. Looking on the web I think this Walmart link is similar but I've never used the HF model nor this one so I can't say if they are worth anything.

You can get this same kind of thing from Aliexpress for $10-$15, but you'll need to add a plug and figure out the tubing.

Lots of vendors. example [aliexpress.us]
