does anyone know if the Powerblock EXP (black with red side numbers) will go on sale again from woot? I know they're the same as this model with different color but I wanted to wait for that version; also will the stand go on sale usually along with these Powerblock sale? thanks.

You can get the 90 lb Bowflex ones for $400 (or less). Aren't the bowflex ones considered better?
Depends on what's most important. I've had the 552's and the 1090's. Never dropped them so durability wasn't an issue for me.

The biggest difference is Bowflex feels more like a traditional dumbbell but they're always wide and bulky no matter what the weight. The powerblocks aren't as wide and bulky but are literally in a cinderblock like shape. They're more durable but still should drop them.

I have the octabells (Nuobells) and absolutely love them but I know eventually the internals will fail. I've been holding off on biting on this deal for a while mostly because I don't like the block design but for big picture fitness reasons I can get over that.

Finally bit the bullet and ordered a 90lb set with the stand and will be putting my octabells on the marketplace probably at a loss.

Looking to upgrade the handle to a knurled setup also

Bought the full set back in January and have been using them almost everyday since then. They're fantastic.

I missed the large compact stand last time so I'm glad to be able to grab it now.

I've never heard someone say they like the bowflex better.

dang, I started on the USA poweblocks line in a previous woot deal but didn't get the expansions.. had to bite on Stage 2 MSRP since it hasn't been on sale and since I maxed out at the 50lbs pretty quickly.

anyone who's serious about home workouts and if you got the budget, I'd pull on the stage 2 and stage 3, as you'll save in the long run as you'll have to wait until your compatible stage models are back on sale. you'll save about $40-70 per stage so worth it if I were to do it again.

for reference, after about 4 months of consistent training (4-5x a week) and rehab after a back injury at home, I went from a 35lb flat DB bench press to 70lbs and 15lb to 55lb single DB rows (4x8s).

I also got the stand later on, I'd highly recommend so you don't have to do a small deadlift every time you rerack after a set. tremendously helped my lower back.
Echoing this. Get the big boys now. Keep lifting and you'll need them.

Is the stand worth it?

I didn't get it but that's because I am a cheapo.

So when I use these I either have them on the cement basement floor or on the bench. For you to be able to switch the weights, I think they have to be on a hard surface, because when I try to do it on the bench or carpet, the plastic insert thingy doesn't go into the hole when you try to push it in. You can sort of get past this by pushing down on the dumbbell very hard, but it gets tedious.

So I have the full 90 lbs on the basement floor. It gets tedious bending down to change the weights and also picking up the weights, but if you are in shape, it shouldn't be a problem.

So there's some things you can't do easily with the powerblocks. Like that exercise you do where you hold the dumbbell over and behind your head / neck and extend/de-extend your arm (I don't know what it's called, but it's a tricep exercise), I don't think you can do it easily but you can get creative like put the dumbbell in a canvas shopping bag and hold the bag by the handles, you can do it that way. I don't ever do that exercise but if I wanted to that's one thing I'd try.

Hmmmm, I'm really tempted by these stage 2's. I've been training with the non expandable Powerblocks https://sport.woot.com/offers/pow...ner-set-25 consistently since October and I'm almost at using the max of 50 for incline presses and rows. I picked them up during the pandemic for $239 through WOOT knowing they were not upgradeable and they've been good for me, along with some kettlebells, resistance bands, a pull up bar, and a a dip bar. Honestly though, I've been considering going back to an actual gym again for the better variety of equipment and being around people, but I'm extremely Covid cautious and would be wearing a mask (haven't had Covid yet, knock on wood), so maybe switching to these would be better. I can probably sell the old ones on FB Marketplace or something? I'm also realizing I have some muscle imbalances that I've allowed to get worse as I've aged, so maybe emphasizing more lat training I wouldn't need to jump up in weight just for heavier pec work. I wonder how much more use I could get out of the non-expandable versions.

Why does the stand look so flimsy? Can it hold 180lbs? The legs look like it came from a 70s tv tray

The problem is the guy who asked about if it could take a toddler bumping into it with the 90lb dumbells on it. Is not just about introducing them to the weights Its the fact that they could cause one or two 90lb dumells to fall and or tip the stand over when playing on it. It is fine to introduce them to said weights but not really fine to leave something not 100% stable with that kinda risk around kids in the toddler age to risk seriously hurting them self.
It was an underrated joke.
Think AFV where kids bump and fall and never ever get hurt.

yes its surprisingly very sturdy even with both full dumbells on it. It comes with some grip tape to put on to help the dumbells not slide around as easy also.

I have it. It works just fine. Also put in some magnets for the weight cylinder "adder" weights.

Starting to lose hope will ever go on sale at Woot anymore. Sure I just need to buy from somewhere else and then the sale will hit. Best seen is powerblock's 15% off sales. Might have to bite on that next time. Need the same expansions.
