Looks ok to me. Reminder - this is NOT a NAS so you need a PC connected to it - there is no network connectivity to this device without a computer.

"Also, do not touch the reset button with drives installed. All data will be lost, even if you haven't changed the dial setting. They do warn about that, but by not changing the settings, I wrongfully assumed the drives would not be affected and it would simply reset the 'Single' setting. That's not the case, and both drives are wiped in a flash (my bad, and mention it only so you're aware)"

Thanks, but not thanks. There are more reliable options out there.

I have this unit which I bought 12/19. Put 5 different size drives in it and use it for backup. I have another(bought 2018) 4 unit which is Nas storage with 4 8gig drives set at raid5. Both are working well. I will say I don't keep them running all the time. I am lazy about backing up and probably do it less than I should. So that is my opinion of them. A thumbs up

Would this work with the terramaster f5 nas? I switched to using a PC bc I had more drives but might try using the nas again.

I bought this and then a N100 mini PC. Runs perfectly with the N100 PC running Plex Server and also serves as a NAS server for my network.

Love to know if I could ADD this to a NAS for extra backup or storage.

I have a Synology but this could easily add storage to it if I needed to have more.

Same brand has a 4-bay NAS for about $167 after 20% coupon on Amazon right now. For 20 bucks more, would it be a better choice?

It depends on what you want to do. That NAS unit is one of their lower-end models. The non-upgradable 1GB memory will limit possible uses, though it should be mostly fine for just regular file sharing. That ARM processor also most likely doesn't support hardware video transcoding, and it probably isn't powerful enough to transcode in software, so you'll be limited if you want to run a transcoding media server like Plex.

Dumb question, but this says it only supports up to 16TB - what would happen if I put a 18TB drive into it? Would it only recognize 16 of those 18TB? Would it just not work?

EDIT: Wait, OPs post says 16TB, the Newegg listing says 18TB. Welp, I've bought and will get to the bottom of this. Fear not, nerds.

Read the Amazon reviews for this thing, especially the 1-stars. There are some massive reliability red flags for a data storage device.

I havhe's. one in use from 2020 and it works great as a backup to my Synology. Customer service is also very good as I had a defective unit in 2019 and the support and exchange was excellent. I may get this to replace my WD attached external hd's.

Really comes down to what you plan on using this device for. Works extremely well as a backup for Nas Data without the cost of a second NAS.

Super easy to use, especially in JBOD. Simple, easy, and effective.

Bought this in 2017 and have been running it with a Mac Mini since then, a bit cheaper than what I paid back then, so really solid deal. Biggest gripe is I wish there was rubber to reduce vibration and noise, the all plastic on metal can get into a weird resonance when certain drives are spinning and I have to nudge them a bit.
