I have a few Firefly guitars and they're an amazing value. Since it's your first guitar you're going to want to factor in around $100 for the cost of a setup by a professional to make sure that it plays well. You really don't want to be fighting your guitar when you're first starting out.
Don't overthink things too much. Get a guitar that looks good and inspires you to pick it up and play. Stop by Justin Guitar [justinguitar.com] while you're at it and get some great lessons for free. Good luck!
Anybody know how often they run a 20% deal?

Squier and Sire also make generally good stuff.

There's almost certainly something decent in your budget out there somewhere.
