Is this only for the qualifying flights to meet the criteria? Or does this also apply to the companion bookings between August and October?

You can book now (or later) and add your Companion once you have the Companion Pass added to your account.
When Companion Pass is added, you must first name your Companion, then you can add them to each of your flight reservations. You can change the name of the companion up to three times per year. Taxes/fees start at $5.60, but may be more if international or long connection. Be aware you will receive your companion pass probably on the start date of August 5, 2024 (may be late to add it, I think they were a day or two late last time) so if you are adding right on this date or nearby, be cautious, since you can only add companion if the seat is available.
I saw the only stipulation was booking with points.
