I just started playing this game maybe 2-3 months ago. I've generally stayed away from MMORPGs, in part because I'm wary of assholes, but the FF14 community seems to be pretty good. They're generally pretty friendly and even courteous, like waiting for people who haven't seen the little cut scenes at the beginning of the final boss fight in a dungeon to finish watching it before triggering the boss. Out of probably literally hundreds of dungeon crawls, there's only been one instance I can think of where a couple of players were being assholes. They were being assholes to each other because one of them did something the other didn't like or I don't really know, I was just trying to level my character and wasn't really paying close attention to the others.

Biggest complaint I have about FF14, is there's a lot of people who've obviously been playing since the beginning, and they'll leave characters logged in for literally days at a time not doing anything. Meanwhile, every time I log in, I usually have to wait a minute or two for some people to log out so I can log in, and there are these idiots not actually playing, but are taking up a slot for people who want to actually actively play. It's one thing if you just step away from the game for a bit, but you'll see the same character in exactly the same spot for literally days at a time. It's annoying, but it could obviously be a lot worse.

You can always grab the free trial, play for a few days, and then see for yourself.
If you can finish everything within 30-days... which is more or less impossible unless you focus on only one or two character classes and ignore almost every side quest. Even then, you may be hard pressed. There's a LOT to do in this game. Otherwise, you have to pay up every 30-days. If you're a casual player who probably only wants to have 1, maybe 2 characters, it's like $12/mo. If you think you're going to be a much more hardcore player than that, with dozens of different characters, it's more like $18/mo.

There's also the free trial version which I think has everything except the most recent expansion. There are some limitations, like you can't use retainers, can't use the in-game market, limited to 300K in currency, and a couple other things, but there are no restrictions on things like the amount of time you can play in a given day. All in all, as free trials go, it's pretty damn generous. They'll probably add the Endwalker expansion to the free trial not too long after the new Dawntrail expansion comes out in July. If you're really determined, you could probably make your way through all but the Endwalker expansion on the free trial and then redeem this for the 30-days that comes with it and finish out Endwalker. I haven't gotten nearly that far, but from what I understand, Endwalker sort of wraps up the story they started with A Realm Reborn and Dawntrail will be starting a whole new storyline along with providing a fairly significant graphical update.

Is the free 30 days only for new subscribers or what?

If i bought the OG version for ps4 with 30 days, does this give another 30 free?

(Nvm this is all clearly stated, the answer is new accounts only)

Always debated trying this as a, now ex-wow hardcore player, but the community.... They are, uh "unique" to put it lightly and in the kindest way I can. Always deterred me from even dipping my toes in. (Probably a lot of good players, but the outward appearance of a community speaks volumes).

I did some research on this also. Looks like it's once per platform per email/account. So you can do pc/steam once, pS4/PS5 once, and Mac once totaling 90 days. I have an old shadowbringers account on PS4 and was considering playing on PC, which actually works out cheaper than buying Endwalker and a subscription on PlayStation vs new PC license with the free 30 days

I ran a Free Company in FFXIV for a few years starting in 2014 and finally dissolving in 2019 (before everyone came back in 2020 ugh) and if anyone's even a little curious to try this game, you absolutely need to. It's not for everyone, but if you're willing to put in the effort to learn the game, the number of possibilities that open up to you are honestly overwhelming in the best way possible.

Yeah, the community is eccentric to say the least, but they're very friendly and rarely toxic. There is always someone willing to walk you through whatever part of the game you're in. The story is fantastic, though there are stretches that seem to take forever and may get a little dry to some people. I usually take breaks from the story to build side classes or hit up the Gold Saucer if I'm getting bored.

It may not be WoW at the height of its popularity, but it's the closest thing we have to it. I love this game.

The community is fine. I've been playing off and on since 2012/2013 and it's usually the "ex-wow hardcore players" that come in and think they know everything about everything and become a problem for everyone.

Regardless of anything else, the game is set up in a way that you don't have to even interact with people outside of main story Trials.

So if I buy this on ps5 can I play everything until I finish the last expansion or do I have to buy a monthly subscription on top of that?

Subscription Mmorpg, monthly fee

Unless you do the free trial, or utilize the free 30 days from buying an edition for a console

How can an MMO ever be complete? Case in point, there's apparently a new expansion coming out this summer which is not included in this "Complete" Edition.

Hey, just so you know, FFXIV does logins in batches. So, the wait you experience isn't an actual queue caused by the AFKers, but simply the game waiting for 25 or so people to log them all in at the same time.

At the launch of a new expansion there will certainly be actual queues, but outside of that it is just the batched logins that are pretty common nowadays.
