Do you foresee your son having two laptops - one for gaming, and one for fusion? I can't tell, but it seems wasteful to get a laptop for only one application and web browsing, because inevitably your son will want one that is capable of gaming. If he eventually gets a laptop for gaming, then what use will he have for this laptop, because he could use the gaming laptop for fusion?

I'm just assuming that your son is like most humans who like gaming, so it's better to put this $500 toward an $800 gaming laptop, because gaming needs are inevitable/inescapable.

Hmmm good point. To be honest, we've limited his exposure to video games and he hasn't really gone down that rabbit hole too far.

He's wanting to get more into CAD as part of his robotics team & I'm trying to keep it around $500 if I can. I told him I'd get him one for stem summer camps but hadn't kept up with prices so may have overcommitted myself.

If yall see any good candidates lmk!

LPDDR5 is code for soldered RAM. In rare instances, some manufacturers leave one open slot for potential upgrades, but I don't see it in the description here. The term you are looking for is either SODIMM or something to the effect of "2 x 8GB."
