White is not a concern...only a few patterns, with blue, eg. Old Town Blue'.

Here's the corporate spiel from their website:

"The food surface contact testing was designed to identify whether any small amount of lead that may have existed in pre-2000 manufactured Corelle product leaches from the product in amounts above today's acceptable lead-safety regulations. The small amount of lead used in decorations pre-2000 was encapsulated in glass before and after the decoration was applied to product and fired to above 750C. The Corelle manufacturing process has always encapsulated decoration in glass, using extremely high processing temperatures to ensure the glass decorations are sealed, which prevents food contact and intentionally decreases the extent of any lead migration to food."

The testing confirms that the vintage products tested comply with current FDA lead-safety regulations – so feel free to use them for everyday dinnerware.
The OG Corelle is way better than the Ikea 'clones'. Our Corelle looks brand new, but a number of the ikea ones have chips in them.
For those wondering about the size of the bowls:

"The larger bowls in this set are 18 ounce cereal bowls and are 6.25'' diameter x 2'' high. The smaller bowls are 10 ounce dip and condiment bowls and are 5.5'' diameter x 1.25'' high."

Finally ordered two sets after reading all the comments. Hopefully shipment is okay and no chipped item.

Does microwave make it super duper hot like ikea ones?
The microwave does not make the plates hot. The plates get hot in the toaster oven.

I guess every family is different. We use the small bowls and plates all the time. mostly desserts, snacks, and the bowls used to be called fruit bowls so they ate good for that and sloppy deserts.

So we used to do that, but now the dishwasher gets full fast, or you're washing more by hand. So when Dad serves, everyone gets dessert on their dinner or lunch plate when they are done. For fruit, we just eat the fruit in our hand like I thought people did (ex apples, oranges, bananas). If you are talking cut up fruit, see using the previous plate like noted. If you insist on separate plates, anything that fits in the small ones, is just fine in the big ones, and they take up the same space in the dish washer or time to wash buy hand. You of course cannot fit what goes on the bigger plate on the smaller.

Minimizing the small plates and bowls makes them hardly used, and they are a waste of space in a smaller kitchen, especially when you want usable plates for guests. No one complains their cake was on a 8 inch plate instead of a 6 inch.
If you have a nice big old kitchen with room for 12 sets of everything, then I guess it works fine. Smaller kitchens won't have a dishwasher due to the already limited space.

Just try going without them and you should see how much less useful they are. Why pay for them when they are hardly used and take up the same space more useful ones will? Just replace them with the larger size and now you have much more useful plates when you entertain instead of inevitably having to give someone a tiny plate or bowl with a smaller portion that needs to be refilled. Well you can always wash and dry a more useful plates when it's ready from the last user, but who wants to be doing that during a get together minimizing family time? Like you said all families are different and maybe that time is not important.

Wow I never realized how many people like Corelle. I personally don't care for it. Plates are too lightweight for my liking and too smooth. I do like the sizing of their bowls though (not the deep ones the standard ones that come in the set).

I actually have this set brand new in the box that I got MANY years ago on clearance at Target for $8.xx - https://www.amazon.com/Corelle-Li...B0000DDU2S

I didn't realize that Corelle no longer had a lifetime warranty on their items until reading this thread.

I remember my friends mom had a set and she dropped a plate and it DID shatter into a lot of pieces. Maybe older set vs newer sets? Corelle did replace it for her free of charge

The deep bowls are not so great for cereal, but work. They are awesome for soup. For individual ramen (maruchan, SP?) they got the whole square in with only the corners needing a slight crushing. Just fill the water slight above the block and two minutes in the microwave, then one covered for perfect as if stovetop ramen. Most other options for that are plastic, and everyone is finally starting to see how bad an idea plastic is in any form to use for food.

Since when do dinnerware set no longer come with mugs?

But it for life forums call out that you want glass for taste, and there are some expensive brands. Corelle's mugs are not even glass, and they have like 3 on their site now. The expensive unbreakable glass is more than you would expect to pay if it was Corelle. I'm currently replacing our Libby glasses that seem to get one broken every 3 weeks with pint glasses by anchor hocking. I have a Menards near me and they are on sale for 58c after rebate. I'm sure they are over $1 in thrift stores used. People swear by them as most durable and cite usage in bars (maybe not same brand, but the design is the thing I guess, or it's something about specifications from jolly old England for them to be called a pint glass). So I'm going that route, they just happen to be cheap as well.

I second that the drinkware does not need to match. Clear glass looks like it belongs with any set.

I had the same experience after dropping a Corelle dish on ceramic tile floor. It plate shattered into a million pieces. I was a afraid to walk in the kitchen without shoe/sandals on for a week even after sweeping and mopping the floor.

It's tempered glass like your car windows. When they shatter, it's like that, but you won't get cut on the pieces because they are like that. I know what you mean about being scared to cut your foot on glass from a old accident, but these have the advantage.

If you do break one a shop vacuum is great to get everything without a doubt. Goes for regular glass too.

Mine arrived broken, and the ones that aren't broken are very disappointing. Thin, cheap. Will be going back.

Led astray by my good friends at slickdeals. These are exactly like crap IKEA plates.

My two sets arrived today. Target placed each set in a small shipping box then put the two small shipping boxes again in a big shipping box. Checked all items and all are in perfect condition. Super happy with my purchase so far

I just received my set and the large bowls are a little bit smaller than I expected. they hold 12 ounces of water when filling to a reasonable height (we tested them as though we are filling them with a reasonable amount of soup without overfilling).

Also, the height is actually less than 2 inches, but the diameter is correct at 6.25 inches

Do you have pictures for scaling purposes? It looks pretty decent size in the picture.

I don't have pics but best bet is to take a ruler and compare to your existing bowls with the dimensions I gave above. They'll do but they are smaller that expected. Also check out the reviews on Target's site, some have pics there
