I've been using these for a year but never use the app/qr functionality. The main advantage (for me) is the spiral-bound notebook has many thin pages and you write on them with special erasable pens. You can erase with the back of the pen or a damp cloth. I use them for my to-do lists, recording measurements on rough schematic drawings, etc. But there's no paper wasted; my chicken scratch is all in one place. Every now and then I go through and erase all the old info and consolidate the rest onto a page or two.

Crazy to see these guys around almost a decade later.

I remember originally you had to microwave (yup) the notebook in order to erase everything. They even gave out the template with the QR code so you could scan to your favorite service (at the time, it was Evernote) so you could try it out at home but, obviously, couldn't erase the writing. You simply used another sheet.

Can you elaborate on performance? Maybe a link to back up the claim? I am interested what other brands are out there as I used Rocketbook a while back and want to get back to digital note taking (non tablet functionality). TIA!

Well, to start, OCR software in general has become very ubiquitous, in that it's hard to throw a rock and not find an implementation that suits your needs embedded in software you may already use.

Google Lens is one example of this, as it's baked into most Android devices these days.

For more comprehensive solutions, Microsoft Lens and Adobe Scan are both miles ahead of their competition when it comes to OCR speed and character recognition on mobile devices.

It's also important to understand that the Rocketbook notebook itself simply uses the QR code as a scanning aide, while other software just leverages a 2D plane.

The only other consideration is indexing and organizing, but that is easily handled in both of the apps I mentioned.

I tried the print-at-home versions. I like the app a lot. I don't write much, though and couldn't justify the price.

At this price, I'll use it for when I'm doing some field work. the nice folio case is what got me. I have a tablet but I don' want to take it with me.

Nice find OP

I'm going in the "remarkable" direction for personal use but used one of these previously. It can absolutely be effective for notes and the price point seems fair. Picked up a half dozen to hand out to clients as a gift.

This is exactly how I use mine. Sometimes I'll scan and store the documents (you can set up the app to store in different locations depending on which icon you select on the page itself). But a lot of the time I just take notes, make to-do lists, and then erase when I've finished with them.

I used the larger size in my graduate studies for note taking and found it wonderful. Thin, easy to carry notebook and I could store all my notes to review later and search thanks to the OCR.
Thanks, OP, I'm in for this smaller package!

I have two notebooks in my home office that I use to write down my to-do lists and meeting notes. However, the ink on the pages takes some time to dry, and if I turn the page before it dries, it smears and causes me to lose some important information that I've written down. But, at least it saves me from wasting paper on post-it notes and new notebooks.
