I could confirm, same experience.
So stiff, one might even call it a "solid" deal.
I don't hike but need to have some stiff shoes that don't weigh a ton due to my disability.
These are great for me in the fall through the winter.
Bought 4 other pairs of Adidas Terrex and 3 other pairs of Nike Trail, much prefer those to this shoe.

I would not call them stiff. I would call them improperly manufactured. I had the same thing with a set of Kamik winter boots. The tops were so short they hurt the top of my feet. But these gore-tex Adidas shoes were made way too short.

My experience aligns with yours regarding this generation. Personally, I find Gen2 satisfactory. It's perplexing why they struggle to maintain consistent size.
