I got a puppy recently and a dog trainer to go with it. I asked about these and bells and was told a hard "no" and he explained that you want your dog to let you know vs relying on bells of a button. Made sense bc I do not want to bring something with me when I travel...
My pups use a doorbell system for letting me know when it's time to go out. What the deciding factor was when we got the first pup she did not know how to get our attention to let us know she wanted to go out, so we found she peed on the floor right by the door. We know she knows what to do because she will sit in front of the door but she's not a barker. So we tried the Jingle Bells, there was problems with those. One of the problems was it was too quiet and a second problem more importantly is one time she got her claw stuck in the Bell, her toenail fit in the hole and then slid down the slice and was stuck, so that was the end of that. Then we got the doorbell, not this one. The one we got has a separate button from the emitter. This allowed us to put the doorbell emitter in the same location as the doorbell for people, so we can hear it throughout the house. The advantages are you can hear it when the doors are closed, and when you're sleeping. My second dog is a better communicator and doesn't really need the Bell, but we trained her anyway and she uses it perfectly now. She even learned at night needs to ring it wait a little bit to see if anybody gets up if nobody gets up she Rings it again and she has amazing timing on it. ( I heard the Bell and did not want to get up hoping my wife heard it too)

edit. I should mention both dogs are rescues so had some training by someone else

Trainers advise, like any professional, should be taken with a grain of salt sometimes. I was told harnesses actually cause pulling. Tested it out and absolutely proved him wrong, the harness helps a lot more.

Our dog is seeming to not let us know when she needs to go out so this button may help if she learns to use it

The issue I've had with things like this (bells) is that the dogs use them when they want something, not need. So, get ready to hear it all day any time they get bored.

My dog goes ballistic at the sound of a doorbell. Even the commercials on tv.

Mine was a rescue as well and this bathroom thing was solved by letting the them out frequently. It's my job to let him out on a regular basis, not the dogs job to tell me. Just like I don't wait for him to tell me to go out and spend time with him walking or throwing the ball. I do it as a part of my day, just like a person who has a kid, you don't wait for them to tell you to give them attention, you do it proactively.

Maybe instead just up the number of times you proactively let the dog out to go to the bathroom instead?

So do you let them out twice in the middle of the night? During the weekends my dogs will ring that Bell every one and a half to 5 hours. Definitely more often when the weather's nice. My one dog likes to go visit the neighbor's house where they have gardener snakes.

Funny story, my older dog rang the bell and when I let the younger dog out, the older dog like nope I'm going to stay in the house without the younger dog.

My dog is extremely smart and very, very food motivated. I taught her "hungry" with a voice button in about 5-10 minutes and "outside" immediately after. She picked it up within about 20 minutes.

I did:
hungry
outside
inside
walk
play

I really only use outside now because she was driving me crazy with the others.

Yes but that doesn't solve the root of the problem - our dog not letting us know when she needs to go. She goes out multiple times a day but sometimes she over drinks and can't hold her bladder randomly

I love my dog but he's so dumb with learning words and tricks. I'm buying this to see if I can get him past the doggie preschool level.

Looks lile a human trainer for dogs 😆
That's exactly what it is. If you have household members that lack awareness or too young to pick up on dog's behavior then this is for you. I find it especially helpful during the puppy days until the dog becomes more assertive. Eventually it turns into a means for attention. By then they are also smart enough to know how to get your attention to go out.

My puppy just crouches down and urinates on the floor to let me know she has to go.

I'm not gonna buy this thing but it did get me thinking.
I'm gonna rig my door with a powered opener/closer and a button like they have for the handicapped in public places. My dog can let himself back in now but I always have to let him out and then he doesn't close the door tight when he comes back in. Lets the cold or bugs in.
