I cancelled mine. It was always overcrowded, people hogging machines, not being hygienic, turning into a teen daycare during the summer. It was too much.

I have a program through work that allowed me to use most gyms for one price I paid to the company ( I had maybe 6-7 gyms I could go to in the area and was only paying in total $25 a month ).

Planet Fitness was definitely on the list of ones I used the least, because anytime between 3pm-8pm ( my time I can workout ) in the local area about 2/3 of the weight machines were taken up and the few benches they had for dumbbell work were pretty much claimed once a group of 4-5 teenagers would get one and take turns for a solid hour.

What I did like was that the gyms were fairly consistent and well kept they have hydro massages which was a great way to kill a few minutes after or before working out, and if you use tanning beds ( I don't ) it seems like a cheap way for unlimited tanning I imagine.

I also liked that they had a massive network of gyms at least in the southeastern US, my wife and I ran a Tough Mudder and stopped by one just to go in and have a hot shower after the race because it was a 3 hour drive back home. This is also handy because when I work out of town I can at least go to one if the hotel gym isn't great and hop on a treadmill or do their 30 minute workout room thing which they seem to enforce people using in the appropriate way.

All in all I think planet fitness is a steal for what they charge, and obviously free gym for high school students is pretty cool, but for those thinking about it as a paid membership just know what you are getting into.

I remember this from last summer. Thanks for the reminder!
BTW, somehow clicking on the link didn't work for me. I had to copy the URL and paste it on another tab on my browser to see the PF page.

This is an early post they don't have info out for it yet. I was looking at this today for my kids; honestly surprised to see it here before any real info is out for it.

I'll put it here because it probably doesn't deserve it's own post:

If you use Active and Fit Direct to gain access to PF and other gyms they've changed their pricing structure making it multiples more expensive depending on how many gyms you use.

Here's what I learned: My spawn has been using PF this summer and asked to keep going once school starts. I have (had) and Active and Fit Direct account through work and was going to add him to my set up. I was paying $28/mo for access to a claimed 12,000+ gyms. PF was my main gym, but I travel a lot and some areas other gyms are more convenient so I had 3 other gyms as well.

Now, as of July 1, it is $28/mo for *one* gym chain, +$23/mo for each additional chain. I could also sign up dependents on the program, and my spouse/domestic partner. Dependents are no longer eligible.
So, instead of paying $28/mo, I was set to be paying ~$100/mo. Defeated the whole point of the program and I've dropped it like a hot potato. If I'm going to be restricted to just one gym (such as PF), it's cheaper to go direct even at the higher Black Card tier of membership. And I can't sign up my kid.

Sometimes I go to PF early in the morning, like 3am and last summer I would see high school kids in there too. They were just screwing around with the equipment

That's the case at some of the other 24 hour gyms as well. I guess their parents let them just run wild at the gym with no curfew. It's starting to end now that school is starting and I am glad!

Last summer I wondered WHY there was so many teens at Planet Fitness. They love working out in groups of 7 and holding a machine hostage for the better part of an hour

Longer than that at some gyms. It's insane!
