Great price! You see them on eBay for around this price from time to time, but I'd much rather buy from a proper retailer.
I wonder if this price has to do with the exchange rate to JPY? I just impulse bought a bougie hi-hat stand I had been eyeing for months, because Amazon showed me a listing from Amazon Japan that cut nearly $100 off of the MSRP. US-based music stores will never adjust their prices based on exchange rate, but maybe with Thomann being in Germany, they go with it?

So I ordered some heads from drum-tec in Germany. Shipping/ VAT was about $50 extra, but they ended up refunding me $30 of it. In the ad it says VAT is included, so I don't really see it being much more expensive.

On Thomanmusic.com it will show it excludes VAT if you're in the US.
There are a few issues ordering from Thomann music in the US since they ship from germany:
- Some brands have great prices but they can't ship here (K&M and Neumann being two of them)
- Shipping on large items like guitars can kill your savings vs US retailers if it's something offered in both countries
- Above $800 reaches the import duties threshold so you end up paying more to import it
Then there's the annoyance of dealing with Thomann's ordering system, which is set up for european style addresses and not US / State addresses, even though the .com site caters to the US.
Still if you get a really good deal and aren't concerned about having to pay to return it to europe, it can be worth it.

Yea, I've been contemplating purchasing a Roland VAD706 from Thomann for $4,499, but not sure how much VAT would be so I haven't bitten the bullet. It's also a lot of money so there's that too. Any thoughts on estimating VAT/import taxes?
