There was a deal a few weeks ago at Microcenter for a refurbished model that seems the same except its a Ryzen 7 7840U for $479. Can't find the SD post anymore, but here is the Microcenter link:

https://www.microcenter.com/produ...Onboard_RA

Obviously YMMV with local Microcenter inventory, but I just got one yesterday for my son and there are a couple more in stock. Good little machine

The mediatek is not an upgrade. Just google that part number you will see.

Buy an intel 6E and put it in instead.

Got that same model as well but from Costco a couple of weeks ago. Very happy with the screen, battery life and power. I think the Macbook Air M1 for 700 at Walmart is a much better laptop overall to be honest, construction is better and the screen while not OLED is also very high quality. But still I chose the HP from Costco as I can occasionally game on it even modern games with some low settings and setting the game optimization mode on for games in the included Omen app. Plus, while construction is not quite on par with the MacBook air M1, it is still very good, the storage is upgradable, and the screen has the inky blacks only OLEDs can provide and the 2 year Costco warranty.

The Microcenter unit for $479 says "Refurbished", not new like this deal is.

Yeah, it is refurbished by HP itself and comes in a sealed certified refurbished box. Mine was like new with no signs of use and 0 cycles on the battery. Bought it for $407 after returning and rebuying it as open box.

Pretty sweet deal then! The closest MC to us (not close at all) only shows one open box for $407 but it says it has a broken web cam, and no new units.

That's funny. That is my MC as well. I actually bought mine for $455 after $25 coupon and returned it, but then had second thoughts about it. A day after returning mine, two showed up as open box. One of them turned out to be mine, so I decided to pick it up for $407. Incredible deal for the specs.

Btw, there is a chance the camera is not broken, but the person that returned the laptop did a clean install of Windows. Someone on the thread for that deal mentioned that the webcam doesn't work with a clean windows install, and to get the webcam to work, they had to download the windows image from HP and do a restore from that. Might be worth a try if you are okay with the drive. I'd reserve it for pickup and then think about it as these don't seem to stay in stock. You'll have a few days to pick it up or just let the reservation expire. They don't need a credit card to reserve items for store pickup, so you won't be charged anything upfront.

I would certainly do that if I was even in the same county, but I'm in San Diego. 2HR drive each way.

I understand. Not worth the hassle, especially if you have to return it. I live about 15 mins from that mc, so made three trips to buy, return, and then rebuy the laptop over a couple of weeks. Would have never done that if I lived 2hrs away.

Guess I'm lucky, my local MC still has 2 in stock!
