There are third party lenses available if you don't want to pay for Nikkor lenses.

I've had my Z5 for a few years and it's been a great entry level full frame mirrorless. Just know what you're getting vs Z6+. Shoots a little slower, low light is good but not as great, and video is cropped on the Z5. It'll do the job just fine though!

Was thinking about grabbing the Canon R8 but this is tempting…

Any thoughts if not yet committed to either brand?

If you don't know whether you need this or a better camera, this is the best choice. Cameras these days are PACKED with features and the improvements get very marginal unless you have a lot of experience and understanding of what you want the camera to do.

If you just point and shoot, there's little point in buying a camera more expensive than this one. Or learn with this one, put together a Nikkor lens collection, and upgrade the body as your skills improve.

As far as I am concerned, I would rather invest in quality glass rather that the latest model of camera. I thought about the R8, but this will suit my needs just fine.

whatever body you buy these days must include image stabilization, it's kind of bonkers they make bodies with out that feature.

Pretty much like most new cars will be at least partially self-drive in the next couple of years.

Hey knowledgeable Nikon folks! Is a Nikon D80 worth anything these days?

I used the Nikon Z5 and it's a great camera. If you focus more on 4k video recording, you may consider the R8 due to Nikon Z5's 1.7x crop in 4k. If you want image stabalisation, get the Z5, the R8 does not have IBIS. The Z5 has dual card slots, the R8 does not. The glass from both Canon and Nikon are high quality and expensive, however, Nikon does offer third party lenses that performs quite well. Getting a full-frame camera for $700 is an awesome price.

I was shooting with a D700 but stopped because it was just easier to shoot with my phone. Quality leap wasn't worth carrying around the DSLR. So glad I bought the Z5 (and the 50mm Z Mount Lens). Portable enough so it doesn't kill my shoulder and the quality leap was astounding.

Wait, it doesn't have IBIS? I thought it did. Im considering it to replace my 7D. I wouldn't mind switching to Nikon but have Canon lenses already.

It takes Z mount. But there is an adapter called FTZ adapter. Hope this helps.

From description:
The Mount Adapter FTZ II adapts F-Mount NIKKOR lenses to the larger Z-Mount without loss of image quality, autofocus performance*, weather-sealing or handling.

*Full AF/AE supported with Full-frame/FX or APS-C size/DX AF-S Type G/D/E, AF-P type G/E, AF-I type D lenses and AF-S/AF-I Teleconverters.
