I have both this and a 34L Osprey Manta (Airspeed suspension) and this has way more usable space and is much lighter and more flexible than the Osprey. They serve two very different functions.

This is ideal as a carry on for most travel trips where you really prioritize carrying capacity, light weight, and flexibility (this can count as a personal item if lightly packed - since there is no support structure everything is flexible, and this can expand into a carry on to bring all your souvenirs back).

The Osprey is what I use when I plan on serious hiking or bikepacking (just used it for a ten day unsupported bikepacking trip) - it's great at what it does but there is a real weight and usable space penalty, and there's no way I'm going to convince anyone it's a personal item. In fact, it's technically not even a carry-on - it's an inch too tall to fit in most sizers (though because it tapers it should pass most visual inspections, though I wouldn't try this on Asian or European airlines who are usually much stricter). That's the penalty of the amazing Airspeed suspension - the bag has dimensions much closer to typical ~45L packs.

I highly recommend both bags for their respective purposes, and both are in fact on sale.

I really like the look/uniqueness of Cotopaxi backpacks until I took a look at some up close at an outdoors retailer. The quality seemed kinda bad for the cost. I will continue to stick with Osprey since their stuff is built to last, and they have a life time warranty.

no experience with Osprey but I have loaned my Cotopaxi to friends and 2 of 3 bought after using it. I really like the texture of it and the straps are very comfortable.

Great bag, use it all the time for weekend trips. Only wish it had a should strap so I could carry as a duffle when I also have a smaller laptop backpack.

Anyone have input on this vs other suggestions for a general purpose travel bag (3-7 days)?
I'm looking at this Reddit spreadsheet and there are a ton. https://docs.google.com/spreadshe...=744941088
I also see some other options are on sale right now, including Nomatic 40L which I've heard good things about in the past https://www.nomatic.com/products/...travel-bag

Backpacks will last many years, your groceries will quickly become the ghost of yesterday's dinner.

Gr8 reviews, and they gave a less colorful black version. In for one for my 2024 adventures, I like it has a good waist strap.

Got excited, in hopes I can replace my Cabin Max Uppsala - However this is a no go for a few European & US air carriers.

Dimensions of this bag: 22 x 12 x 10" (56 x 30 x 25cm)

Icelandair Max Carry on size: 21.6x15.7x7.8 inches (55x40x20 cm) : https://www.icelandair.com/suppor...allowance/

Ryanair Max Carry on size: (40x20x25cm) : https://help.ryanair.com/hc/en-us...Bag-Policy

If you get a ticketing or gate agent on a bad day (happens when you least expect it...at least for me), this wont work on American Airlines, Alaskan, Delta, Jet Blue or United Domestic if they told you to fit it into the sizer (one inch too deep) - Max Carry on size: 22 x 14 x 9 : https://www.cnn.com/cnn-underscor...size-guide

Osprey is a better value for money. This is paying $150 for essentially a plastic bag branded Cotopaxi. Osprey backpacks, at similar price, have top tier back support & stabilizer technology as well as a superlight metal frame for the structure. Used my Osprey Farpoint for multiple 2weeks-4weeks backpacking trips in Asia carrying 30lbs+ with ease.

Just the number of people coming here to comment on this bag should attest for the quality and usefulness of this as a travel bag.

My family has used these exclusively for the last probably 5 years. Wife and I have the 35L and daughters use 28L. I use the 28L if I'm traveling alone (don't have to carry extra family stuff).

Only complaint is no water bottle pocket. They have one on the 42L. Come on Cotopaxi add it in the next iteration.
