Totally disagree. The 1335U has 10 cores and 12 threads and performs quite well. Hard to beat that performance in a $400 laptop.
Well congratulations on having an opinion. This isn't meant to be a powerhouse laptop, it's a thin and light that has a good balance of performance and power efficiency. Go find some better laptops that have an i5, 16GB of DDR5, and a 16" screen, for $400. We'll wait while you go on the hunt.
Baloney! Go find us some $400 laptops that beat this one and post them here. Second time I have challenged you to do this.

For any new comers in this thread just ignore all of poopi's posts. Maybe even block them since they are trolling hard.
This laptop is good for the price.
Not a gaming, workstation, or creator laptop...
It's for general / basic use and it does the job well - silent, good battery life, good keyboard, USB-C power, plenty of ports, and decent horsepower.
Two performance cores boosting to 4.6GHz is good enough and you have eight efficient cores for more horsepower / multitasking.
16GB smooths out the experience compared to only 8GB on other budget laptops.
Even though this is a slim laptop the fans do not run or run silently under normal use.
While it has an aluminum chassis I believe the hinges are plastic. AL adds durability, but also weight.
Has backlit keyboard and keyboard feel is one of Lenovo's strengths.
The only cons are the screen and maybe weight.
This is the best $400 basic laptop that does not require jumping through hoops.

Edit: Lenovo specifications page: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/I...82XF0065US

The Office Depot Vivobook is a HOT deal since people stacked on cashback, gift card and partial refunds. But it was difficult to find in stock and YMMV.
It has better colors and refresh rate which pairs nicely with the 3050 GPU. However no backlit keyboard, the default fan profile is loud, and only 8GB ram. Most will not have the expertise or desire to upgrade ram.
Better colors + high refresh rates are nice (and noticeable), but not critical for a basic laptop.

Do these still have the crappy hinges that break the laptop's casing after about six months? Bought a similar laptop for my daughter and had to replace the hinges and the broken plastic pieces twice and at one point, I had to tape something to the lid so that she would be able to use the laptop without the screen flopping completely horizontal. She had to live with it like that until she graduated in May, now it's not pressing, but I might have to buy yet another set of replacement hinges and the bezel and other plastics so that I can get the thing back to a reasonably normal state. The hinges eventually seize and the flimsy plastic holding the anchoring screws breaks. This is a known issue with these Lenovo laptops and I doubt that they have made an attempt to fixed them, so just be forewarned. I have ancient Dell laptops that never experienced this issue but they were not super thin units like these where they don't have the real estate to reinforce the hinges well. Good luck. It had great specs, but when the hinges seized...twice and I had to replace the broken plastics multiple times, I regretted the purchase...hope buyers have better luck than I.

Just google "lenovo ideapad broken hinge" for more information on this ongoing problem.
Not sure, I'm not familiar with the Ideapad model, but my Thinkpad hasn't experienced any issues with hinges. Are they as quality as my MacBook Pro? No, but they're robust enough.

Is the i5-1335U with 10 cores better than the Ryzen 9 7940HS with 8 cores? People tell me when in doubt, more cores = better performance.

No, the 7940HS is appreciably faster.

This laptop was a Frontpage deal at this price less than 3 months ago. I haven't been following laptop deals, but I don't think the market has changed so significantly to invalidate this deal. It is still a heck of a configuration and features for this price.

I don't know why it isn't listed in a thread just on its own.
Where are the product specific threads advertised on this site ?

16gb teamgroup 3200 stick is $30. This laptop has a 45% NTSC 60hz display vs the vivobook 100% srgb 120hz. Neither of these CPU's are workhorses the ddr5 isn't a game changing experience.

Besides the power efficiency (which isn't ground breaking you'll be getting barely 5-6 hours out of either of these laptops makes it a bad deal imo.
For the uninitiated, googled 45% NTSC equals 65% RGB

Yeah, you're way off from the reality of what you should expect from a $400 laptop.

This is a great laptop and value, however, don't expect it to be lightweight, it's heavy enough to really want to not carry it about

I bought a new Ideapad Flex 5 w/7530u and 16" touchscreen + active pen for $430 back in January. I tried to post the deal, but mods repeatedly took it down.

They'll probably delete this post also. There are certain keywords that get auto-flagged for mod review; hint, anything critical of what SD has become.
