You have to hand it to Atari: They know their audience.šŸ¤“

On an unrelated note, I miss Radio Shack.
Same here, but the OG Radio Shack, where you could pick up a Forest Mims handbook and go hog with their discrete circuit components, not the cell phone mall kiosk it was when it died.
Proud to say that my knowledge of how nuclear reactors work comes from the actual Atari 400 when I was 6-7 years old. Mushy membrane keyboard lol

$100.... that is 1000% overpriced.... think about the mini NES, MD, PSONE, etc....
That was my thought. First..it's the 400....why the 400?? Not the 800 or 800XL? Secondly, that price is crazy.

16 bit? The ti99/4a was 8 bit.
The TI-99/4a ran the TMS9900 processor, which is a 16-bit microprocessor. I believe it ran very slowly because of the way TI had it access memory, but it is a 16-bit computer.

That thing was horrible! Lolz, what are you talking about.
It may have been horrible but it's better than nothing.
Having to hook up an external keyboard kind of kills the nostalgia. Might as well just use a RPi..

If it didn't have a tube tester, it wasn't a real Rat Shack.

Very tempting...my first computer was an Atari 600XL. Lots of good memories of that machine and the C64 I bought a few years later.

You should have Googled the processor for the ti99/4a, first.

OK...now I KNOW some of you in this thread will appreciate this:

I spent many, many hours typing in various programs that didn't work. Eventually they had the CRC-coded version so at least you knew you typed in their bugged code correctly. But overall that was the best magazine ever.

ROMs and images are available all over the Internet that you can put onto a USB flash drive, though some will question the legality of that. Search for Atarimania, which tends to be one of the more frequent sites.

Personally, I've bought a few of these retro-type things in the past. They are fun for reliving old memories, but after maybe a few days or hours, I tend to forget about them, and they end up collecting dust after that.

Though I suspect that down the road, I'll pull them out for another walk down memory lane and simpler times!
I keep wanting to go back to those simpler times

I remember typing in commands to load games from the tape drive hooked up to one of these when I was 5 or 6 years old. Canyon climber was the best.

I was 7 when I got to play with this, but it was my brother's. I remember being amazed when he typed up all of the code of "Caves of Ice" and "Hookey". I also used to play Choplifter and Submarine Commander, which would scare the shit out of me when torpedoes would start dropping out of nowhere after 20+ minutes of silence.

I think I still have some of the cassettes of manually typed code. My first experience with programming too. That keyboard was torture.

It's very cool they openly support ROMs, instead of forcing their target audience to jump through hoops to jailbreak the device.

You can get plenty of TRS-80 emulators.

I have my Atari 400 set up in my spare room. Loved playing Berzerk, PAC Man etc. Then there's the Atari 410… That dam Tape Drive. My favorite games were Miner 2049ER and 1942… waiting patiently approximately 45 min while the game loads… only to have an error… have to try and load… again…

Why are you telling me? I already said that, and said it first.
