This is the 2.0 version which is the better buy. The first version was susceptible to mold from everything I've seen. Great deal!

Side tank not included. Might want the Costco return policy on an ice maker.

Jeez! I've been running the first gen Opal since 2019. Based on the some of the reviews and mold horror stories, I should be dead right now. Mine still produces great ice but the door sensor is failing. I'd say it's been a good run.

Had mine since last Christmas and I love it! Pro Tip: Use distilled water ONLY, buy the filter attachment on Amazon (redundant, I know, but mold.) and splurge for the side tank. Other than cleaning and flushing regularly and dusting/blowing out the vents, this thing is a workhorse. Worth the monies to me. 😁

Does it actually come close to comparing to the ice from a place like Wawa?

Definitely need to get the one with the scape otherwise you're always going to be refilling this one.

All counter top ice makers are prone to mold. To reduce mold, use clean drinking water. No, your Brita filters aren't great at removing hard water. In fact, certain elements in water cannot be removed by Brita filters. Use distilled water or drinking water, RO water is also good. Next, keep the water circulating. If you make ice once a day and leave it there for a week, it's going to grow mold. A sitting ice maker is mold. Finally, buy an ice maker cleaner and clean it every two to four weeks depending on usage.

Had mine for a year now and works flawlessly, as long as you clean it every 2-3 weeks. Get one with a side tank. Worth it. Tankless would be a pain to keep refilling.

Frigidaire is way better. I've had both.

Even with RO, you'll accumulate slime. You need to use distilled or boiled/cooled water.

Also teach family members to wash their hands before scooping for ice. I wish they teach Microbiology in high school. We'd have a more sanitary society.

5 years in my book is not a good run. My newest vehicle is a 2001 buick and not looking to replace for 20 more years. Many appliances are junk these days stealing your disposable income when they should be durable items. Light bulbs last longer...
