So how many others things did you need to purchase?

A digital vacuum gauge, what else?
You don't need a digital vacuum gauge. You'll need a vacuum pump, which has an analog gauge on it. Cable set cover kit if you want it to look decent. Basic hand tools and a hole saw in the specific size.

I'm not sure about central air. I didn't bother with quotes for that, only ductless mini-splits.

My attic is wide open and a prime candidate for central air but I'd rather mini-splits.

I'm handy but these have me second guessing all of the time due to the warranty. I'd obviously want the warranty intact.

I'm not sure how these perform vs various Mitsubishi units.
Get a Daiken. Techs will show up and maintain them for you.

I researched a lot but settled with professional installation. higher end brand like trane- contractor quoted 7-8k with 24mo financing (24000btu)and 12yr warranty. this includes 240v electrical work and emergemcy panel outside.

i went with $4200 option with seer 22 rating so that i can get 30% rebate as tqx credit. it will make effective price $2800 not bad compared to mr cool diy installation. its been running cool now makes my 3 car gagrage about 75

Can you recommend one? Not looking to drop $1,000 on one, but also want something reliable.

Testing with a vacuum is only equivalent to something like -15psi. Most manufacturers recommend pressure testing these between 400-600 psi. Do yourself a favor and get a nitrogen tank and a nitrogen regulator. After pressure test holds, blow the nitro and pull a vacuum to below 500 microns. Any way other than this is not following proper procedures and you'd be better off taking your $1,700 to the casino. Good luck either way though.

A digital vacuum gauge, what else?
BluVac micro Micron gauge - $200
Robinair 2 stage vacuum pump $200
Yellow jacket R410 manifold $170 (not necessary, but good to know pressures)
Yellow Jacket 5/16 adapter (not necessary))
Appoin 5/16 valve core removal - $75
Flareseal - $20 (pioneer systems comes with them and nylog already)
Nitrogen regulator - $40
Small bottle nitrogen tank - $140
Flaring tool and cutter - $60
Crows foot and torque wrench $125 (I have them already for automotive work)

Micrometer to measure 1.3mm ish to flare as recommended. $20

You get the picture… apion.. yellow jacket… robinair… don't cheap out on tools.
