I was a fan of The Martian, but Artemis was a huge letdown for me. It's full of middle school humor and Weir did not do a good job writing for a female character. Maybe worth your $3, but don't expect The Martian magic.
I thought it was a fun read but not on the level of The Martian or Project Hail Mary.

Your library potentially has no wait time for this with Libby. Mine has about 50 unused copies. Typically when the library comment is brought up in these threads it's a 2 month wait for me, so it's better to spend $3 but not for this book
Everyone knows The Martian. Classic.

Artemis isn't that good.

Now Project Hail Mary. Best book I've read in years. On the edge of my seat. Read it in two days. Can't stop thinking about it.

Hail Mary is the only book of his I've read, after enjoying the film version of The Martian. it was a mixed bag for me. I actually really liked the plot, the characters, and the story overall. However... the writing I thought was absolutely terrible. It read a lot like "fan fiction" in style to me, albeit after having edited by a professional. The writing was like it was at a lower reading level. Maybe he does this on purpose so teens can read his books easier? Anyway, despite my interest in the story I struggled to get through it, but I did. Weird experience reading, though. I was interested in Artemis, but after reading Hail Mary I just couldn't do it. I guess I'll wait for "faithful movie adaptations" since I do like the plots he comes up with.
Project Hail Mary is exceptional as an audiobook. I haven't read the text version, but I have the feeling it was written to be an audiobook. There are parts I'm not even sure would translate to the written version.
I enjoyed Artemis, not nearly as much as PHM or The Martian, but again I listened to it rather than read it.

Project Hail Mart was awesome. They are making a movie. Guess who will be the astronaut? Ryan Gosling.

I can see how the pacing would work better read outloud, so you might be right.

Andy Weir did a very poor job writing this lead female character. Jazz didn't have any Stephen King moments where she "breasted boobily down the stairs", but Weir got close a couple times. And it is very clear from the way race, gender, and homosexuality are awkwardly addressed in the book that it was written by a cishet white man who hadn't done a whole lot of research into these topics.

If you can overlook these things, it isn't a *terrible* sci-fi story, and the science...like the science in The Martian...seemed sound, which is what I read Any Weir for. But yeah, like it has been said here, if this is your first time reading Andy Weir, start with The Martian or Project Hail Mary.

Thanks for your suggestion. I was able to go to my Library's website and add the eBook through "Libby" which sent me to Amazon where I could download it to my Kindle. All for free.
