Heads up -- I've purchased two "refurbished" Kindles from Woot in the past.

Both weren't refurbished -- not even in the slightest. They were -very- beat up with scratches, dings, etc. The battery lasted 30-45min with 50% brightness and no wifi.

Woot's "refurbished" means heavily used yard sale/thrift store quality. It's a spit shine minus the shine, with extra spit. In other words, "junk". E-waste. A scam, if you'd permit a bit of the hyperbolic.

These here are "Scratch & Dent" -- I'd hate to see what these look like, as "refurbished" was downright ugly and functionally unusable.

They did make it right with refunds, but that was a LOT of back and forth. Unnecessary hassle.

Last couple of Woot purchases has been unsatisfactory for me. Not broken but not 100%. Not talking about this specific product, just Woot in general.

I ordered various refurb Kindles from Woot, received kindle instead of Kindle oasis, fire 7 instead of kpw, some are unusable as described... Not trustable at all.

I ordered. Needed an upgrade for a backlight and wasn't impressed with the recent prime day discount.

the e-ink screens are amazing, but the cost on premium models is insane when the same screens from over a decade ago are just as good (unless you need added features from a tablet).

Ugh! I got tricked into buying as well and received an embarrassing piece of garbage. I didn't know returning it (for free) was an option, since I thought I'd have to pay for return shipping, as the device technically worked but same situation as you described being beat up and lack of battery life. Guess they're still making money off of suckers like me who didn't know free refunds were possible.

Is there any easy way to get it to these to do a headless/fullscreen browser mode? I'd like to made these into kiosks for my home assistant UI.

I'd probably be putting it in a 3D printed cover and it would not be for hand held use, so I unless the screen was scratched up beyond recognition, I just need a cheap e-ink display.

I had to -argue- with them that "no, 30-45 minutes of battery life on a Kindle is TOTALLY unacceptable. yes, I've turned the wifi off and brightness down. yes, i've given it a few power+drain cycles to "normalize", even though that's ENTIRELY unnecessary on a used device."

For two Kindles, charging then using it normally for 30-45min each time....that's several hours of my day wasted. I work for a living. I have a family. I have a figurative never-ending MOUNTAIN of obligations. For a sub-$100 toy, if I placed ANY monetary value on my time, I'd just slam the piece of junk into the garbage can and walk away.

After several emails going back and forth, they refunded me. Nothing given for my time or hassle after selling me clearly something that wasn't "refurbished" in the slightest.100% lied to, just like how buying from AMAZON directly -actually has resulted- in getting counterfeits. It's a scam. Nothing but deception.

"Woot" is an Amazon company. This is first-party refurbishment. Add all this to Amazon's warts, like inventory commingling. I don't trust either Woot or Amazon to do anything right, and after all this, I don't think I actually -want- to buy a Kindle in the future.
