I always love seeing some good lens deals, but cannon will run this lens for 699 once or twice a year.

Are you thinking of the EF version? This is the cheapest the RF version has been.

I was able to snag one late in the night finally after stuck in a waiting game because the same thing happened the last time this became available. I had a few alerts setup and I also got notification from Canon a few minutes after the other alerts. This goes really quick because it's such an amazing lens and the price point is incredibly attractive. I'm happy with the price and not waiting for 699 to come around.
