Really good game. I've beat the sequel on Switch. Bought a physical copy because of how good it was and now about to buy the digital for PS4.

Pretty much, but it was fun in its own right. I have the second one on PC and was surprised by how decent and occasionally funny it was. They even make fun of pokemon games here and there.

I'm a fan of self deprecating humor!

Is it a similar gameplay to Pokemon? Yes
Is it better than the similar Pokemon games in numerous ways? Yes.

I hate that "knock off" terminology with a passion as every game has a similar style to games that came out 30 years ago. Why is it we accept improved versions of everything else but whenever there's something similar to a pokemon game it's a "knock off". FYI pokemon wasn't the first to that gameplay

Because there's a difference between the same genre (like racing, fighters, shooters) versus a very specific type of genre. In this game, you're capturing creatures in small devices like Pokeballs, fighting an evil team, traveling a world from a top-down perspective, fighting in turn-based battles (where you're in the foreground with your monster on the left vs your opponent in the background on the right). I don't consider games like Monster Rancher, Dragon Quest: Monsters, Robopon, etc to be knockoffs. They all put their own spin on the monster battling rpg genre.

Almost every fps plays the exact same way the exact same guns and you are supposed to do the same exact thing. How is that not the same thing? "Well they have different characters and different maps"
Ummm yeah so does TemTem/nexomon/Pokemon
