Is this a deal? Is a new amp coming out? Any G-2 on this?

It's not a bad deal. I've bought 4 used ones in the past 6 months, each for about $375-$425 (used) after searching for "deals". No idea if a new product is in the pipeline, but Unifi recently released a competing product that also includes a display

Thanks OP. Just ordered 5 of these. I can normally get 15% off at sonos, and this works out to be about $5 more. But with the slow shipping credit plus 5% back from amazon cc, this definitely works out to be better.

Watch out. A friend had his Sonos equipment bricked when they decided not to support it anymore. Why a piece of sound equipment needs to be on Internet I will never understand.

I wouldn't touch Sonos with a ten foot pole after how they've been acting lately. This could be a six hundred dollar brick in a few years.

No Sonos devices have ever been bricked... They announced that they are not supporting updates on the s1 devices, which came out between 2007 and 2012. An Internet connected speaker being actively updated for 10 to 15 years seems pretty reasonable, and they kept working as-is after discontinuation...

Again, why a speaker needs to be online, other than allowing the maker to collect and monetize your personal data, is beyond me.

I'll let my friend with the bricked devices know that you said his bricked devices actually work. Maybe he needs to plug them in. Sure. That's it.
Well not trying to be rude but yes it's beyond you bc you haven't tried them out. The connectivity is why one uses sonos. Otherwise it's overpriced.

The problem here is that once they stop supporting a product then it may require a separate app. That's the problem I had in my system. Sonos works better if you can use all your products via one app.

They need to be online so they can stream music from… online services.

More dependencies. More subscriptions. More companys' paws in your pockets. Use PlexAmp, WinAmp, Musicbee, etc., to play from your own FLAC library. No subscriptions. No need for a speaker to be online. Ever. Still want to run SiriusXM or Spotify? Put a Raspberry Pi on your network and have that stream it. Free and open-source. No dependencies on corporations who put profit before the customer. Take the audio output from the Pi and put it into an amp. No network required on the sound system at all. No speakers or amps in danger of being bricked.

Yet, somehow, before Sonos, we all managed to play our music without dependencies on companies who can brick you in a blink and without paying subscription fees.
