The trash items in these sets that are just there to fill the item count are always the scissors, skewers, knives, and corn cob holders. And if your grill grates are ceramic coated, the grill brush and large spatula need to go right in the trash.
If you're trying to build a set that will last, the first item you should splurge on is the tongs. The most versatile ones I've seen have fingers that fit through the grates, so you don't even need a spatula (leave the spatula to the Blackstone weirdos).
