Agreed.

Any tricks to make this cheaper? Like can we get Steam cards at 10% off anywhere and use them for this?
… it's a $300 handheld that needs to balance resolution, refresh rate, and battery life. Not a $2K desktop for you to run Fortnite at 300 FPS.
Show me the S21 running the new God of War, or Last of Us, or Cyberpunk 2077 like the Steam Deck can.

It's a computer. You can install whatever you want on it. It's extremely not locked down, which is part of what makes it so cool. Steam doesn't need to be greedy, they already dominate PC gaming. It's the fact that it's basically emulating Windows on Linux that makes anti-cheat software think you're doing something suspicious. That has nothing to do with Valve and it's possible that it gets resolved one day.

Publishers holding dearly to Windows is the only "locking out" anyone is doing. Steam deck using Linux is the best thing for the gaming industry. You couldn't have said it better!!

I remember, but haven't been able to find any proof online, when Gabe went to meet with Microsoft to discuss how the Windows OS needed to change to be better for gaming systems and Microsoft told him to kick rocks. He then doubled down on his efforts to make Linux a better gaming OS and started producing Linux based hardware too. If that meeting had gone in a different direction, the Steam Deck would be a native Windows device.

This is such an amazing deal, I was just doing to shell out $50 more on switch and the only thing switch has going for it is that it's OLED. Thanks

__Refurb dead after a couple months__

I am just writing this because I wondered about the quality of a refurb device before purchasing and I also wondered about their support department.

1 star, would not buy again. I would never buy anything more than games from them or deal with support for anything that requires they read a description of a problem

Mine crapped out after 3 months, for no clear reason. The support system is an absolute abomination and, while sending a verbose original description, including that the device will not power on I had to go through 3 rounds of back and forth trying different things that almost all started with the requirement that the device power on.

The final insult is, after reiterating each time that the device will not power on, after no changes, modifications or anything beyond trying to charge the device. They have the audacity to say that "Based on the information you have provided, we believe it is unlikely that the current issue reflects a problem with this device as it was delivered to you. It may instead be related to your particular use of the product."

I see a number of low IQ posts here because they don't understand what these handheld consoles are and what they are capable of. The Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, MSI Claw and a couple of others are very capable, handheld computers. They are not comparable to tablets or phones. These are meant for gaming PLUS you can actually hook them up to a monitor with a keyboard and mouse then have a actual desktop like you would with a laptop or desktop. You can play games online or offline and use the desktop online or offline. Instead of saying OMG, this has 60hz! Its hot garbage! Or that you can game "longer" on a older phone or do things better with a tablet. Go ahead and be bias when you have no idea what they are actually capable of when you have not even watch 1 single video about one or even tried one yourself.
My Motorola edge has a desktop mode that can be used wirelessly or wired with HDMI adapter. Is like a mini mobile desktop computer. I just use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Really cool. Also has something like 166hz or something and can recharge up to 68w I think .
