I see you are one of today's 10,000 when it comes to good ultrawide monitor brands.

Yes, they are a known good monitor brand.
Be warned that these don't hold up well for fast paced gaming and movies, compared to other choices. Ghosting is a known issue with pretty much all of their displays. They're more than suitable for productivity, though.
I'm just going to chalk this up to what you are looking for in a monitor.

And I will gladly concede that this monitor is not nearly as good as a monitor that is 2x - 3x's the price. If money is no object I wouldn't purchase a lesser known name open box ultrawide.

That said ...
1. The difference between 120hz and 144hz is minor and generally imperceptible for most gamers and most games. Competitive FPS type situations for really good gamers there is likely to be a difference. But at that level you are talking about needing to finely tune every single aspect of the gaming experience (M/K, audio, etc).
2. I consider myself a gamer with a wide collection of games and types. I can report that personally, I have not seen any tearing or ghosting on my monitor. It has worked just fine. I'm pushing my 4070 Ti Super to it's limits with RDR2, Alan Wake 2, and other demanding games.
3. If you have the budget, absolutely spend more. This is a value buy. In my opinion, you can get 90% of the experience of monitors that cost 2x3's as much.

You absolutely do NOT need 144Hz for fluid gaming. It's certainly nice but that's all that it is - nice. 120Hz is plenty good for all but the most discerning gamers (in which case you should be looking to spend double and grab the G9 OLED).

My post above hopefully explained the resolution problem. The easiest way to think about these is if you had two 27" 2K monitors side by side. That's all these are. You gain the benefit of one power cable, video cable, etc. You can still split your screen to have the same experience as side by side BUT you get the added benefit of no bezel between monitors if you want to stretch to just one big wide screen. Games like Red Dead Redemption 2 are really enhanced by expanding your field of view. And in my opinion, it looks way better than my previous set-up with 2 32" monitors side by side..

This isn't a top of the line monitor by any means. But it is a good $250-300 less than what the equivalent Samsung goes on sale for. I highly recommend it as a great starter ultrawide to see if you like it. The dirty secret that people won't tell you is that ultrawides are not for everyone. Plenty of people regret getting them. As a way to dip your toe in the water to see if he likes it or not I think it's a great buy.

My two cents.
You need to watch videos of these things actually running games. 120hz means nothing when you can see warp trail ghosting on everything.

The only downside to this monitor, and it is purely a personal opinion, is that the curve is less aggressive than I would want.
This is what concerns me. For this size, I think a larger curvature (e.g., 1000R) is necessary.

I ordered the 40" last Friday and it was delivered by Amazon on Sunday. I've only been using it for 3 days but it's been great so far!

Been using the 75hz 40inch 5k2k to play space marine 2 for a few weeks now and I love it.

I'd rather have a 42' OLED

40" Ultrawide????
By current standards 40" is not considered ultra wide.
Specially with 58" monitors being available.

Any monitor with roughly 21:9 aspect is considered as Ultra wide, it has nothing to do with the screen size.

I use one of these 40" monitors, bought around Black Friday of last year, and it's been great. I will say that I have replaced it twice due to a power supply whine that began developing. It was replaced under warranty each time. I wanted a solid 5k monitor for pixel density at this size and have been pleased overall for the price.
Agreed, bought last year, no regrets, esp at this price point

Wow I bought my 40inch 5k2k for ~$525 after taxes like half a year ago...kinda wish I waited but mine is technically brand new vs open box and I got to use it for like half a year. I love the monitor as long as you're ok with 75hz then you'll like this monitor.

I've had the 40" 5K2K monitor since around Black Friday 2023 and it has been perfect. The best decision I've made for decluttering my desk and multitasking at work. I have not used it for gaming as I hook it up to my work computer, but I bet it would perform well in that arena. I noticed what I think is a single dead pixel while cleaning it up close a few months ago, but it is completely imperceptible from a normal viewing distance due to the really small pixel size. I wouldn't even bother replacing it. This monitor has the same panel found in the LG 40WP95C-W.

I feel the resolution is too low for the 39" one and too high for the 40" one.

You can absolutely return it with any dead pixels. I asked before I bought.

My experience has been the exact opposite. 6 months in and not a single bad pixel. I don't see any ghosting while gaming (couple hours/day).

It may sound like I'm schilling for these guys and of course I have no idea what your experience will be. I just know that I am super happy that I rolled the dice on the ultrawide. I passed up similar deals for several months as I dithered about whether to pull the trigger. Ended up saving me about $300 from what I was about to spend on a G9 that I don't think would have been any better for my needs. Now if you are looking at the OLED Samsung or the 57" Neo that's a whole different story. I would fully expect both to be significant upgrades (at double or triple the price).
Ditto, my 49" is performing very well. Minor ghosting is the only issue. But I use it for productivity, not gaming.
