It's basically their attempt to make Xcom 2.5, it's basically xcom 2 but with way less complexity and alot more fun/iinnovative/experiemental ideas. It's like they were trying to make an xcom with a cleaner interface and simplified gameplay for mobile.
Xcom 2 and Xcom 1 are better if you want to deep dive into a long game and use mods and get the whole experience.
Chimera squad is fun, but not as deep, and is more goofy. It's very skippable but if you've played the heck out of Xcom 1 and 2 and played all the DLC and got into mods and you still want more Xcom, it's fun for a week or two.

Strategically, despite using a lot of same graphics its a very different game, but still very good. Instead of the build up- running across the map and setting yourself up... this is more immediate. Each round starts with combat... you bust into a room and immediately start fighting- a lot of the strategy is how you enter the room.
There aren't team turns, individuals take turns, so again, this changes strategy. It's more like a police procedural than a fight off alien-invasion game. You play as humans and aliens... so you can control a sexy snake woman alongside your human soldier.
It's good... probably not as good as a full XCOM game, but definitely a bargain at $2.99. Better still, it actually plays like a different game.
It's definitely replayable, at least three times if you want to play each storyline. After the first run-through if you go to the Steam Workshop... can really customize the game, very strong mod community, as there is with XCOM 2 too.
