Shockingly cheap for nonstop flights during peak season -- apparently Icelandair just opened this route and are trying to fill them up early!

Sample GFlights below -- 7 and 10-day itineraries seem to work best

https://www.google.com/travel/fli...gBAQ&hl=en

Only $90 extra for checked bags and seat selection; compared to $200+ for most carriers.

Additional note: if you select Icelandair and choose various other European destinations where they fly, the deal continues to be ~$500 less than normal summer prices to LHR, MUC, etc. Icelandair allows planned stopovers up to 3 days in both directions, so you can also do a multistop trip without committing completely to Iceland.

Great! OP here, I went way back in 1999 in March, which is still "deep winter" so a lot is closed or hard to access (or just fricking cold). And even back then, a pint of lager was $10.

Protip: get away from Reykjavik for much better pricing. The city airport (in town, not 50 miles away like Keflavik) has pretty affordable roundtrips around the island. A couple days in Akureyri or the east fjords would be a nice change of pace, and beats the 5-10 hours of driving to get there. Almost every road in Iceland follows an outer loop, and there's no rail...so it's rental car or fly. Some bus service, as well.

Thanks for your additional comments. I was taking a look at things to do there, and definitely seemed like most things are quite expensive there and a rental car is mandatory as things are spread out quite a bit. Looks lovely though.

Probably super expensive in summer. And at capacity. Book everything in advance. Food at least in Reykjavik is subpar even at nicer restaurants bc they don't really have to try hard, as people will come anyway. I went in winter a couple of years ago.
