The other Stargate shows are on sale as well. SG-1 is $50 and Atlantis is $25
Had potential but personally they focused too much on drama a lot and missed the action. It did pick up better in S2 but then got the axe.
I agree, I don't mind drama, but I preferred a bit more discovery and action, not really like episodic bad guy or bad situation of the day. I much more prefer longer arcs and such...

I def miss good stargate and star trek and other good scifi, not fantasy, per say, but scifi...

I think that's what ultimately led to its demise. It was Battlestar Galactica in the Stargate universe. And Stargate fans wanted the adventure that SG was known for. Not dark & gritty intrigue.

Hmmm, guess I'm the only one who LOVED SG Universe and the Battlestar Galactica reboot with the dark gritty intrigue. I liked the action, too, but a little goes a long way for me. The JJ Abrams Star Trek and Star Wars is pretty much all ADD action adventure about every 30 seconds.

I never watched the original Stargate. Drama is my #1 genre followed by Sci-fi. Can't say what caused the show to be cancelled, I'm not an expert.

Loved this show. I don't understand why there isn't a new one on tv yet, or a theme park land.

Watching Atlantis now on Hulu. Then will get to SG-1 later on.

Personally I'd rather own disks when buying because no streaming needed and the sound quality a ton better, plus usually extra features, like the Star Trek Original Series has, amazing special features! Highly recommend that buy the way.

Agreed. Exactly why I keep coming back to SG-1.

100% this. I wasn't looking for drama after drama around characters back on earth that I couldn't care less about. They had some really good episodes (the solar flare one was my favorite), but dragged it way down with the bad drama.

I thought this show was great and I thought it had massive potential if they just let another season play out. There was plenty of exploration, but yes they were always on crunch time. People say it was like Battlestar, I think it was more of a nice mix of Battlestar and ST Voyager.. You could tell the writers were building the characters in the first season and the actual show had a long term story in place, but because of the long play it was taking forever to flush the excitement into the show even though they started building it nicely in season 2. I think if they gave it one more season it would have been a major hit.

I loved Stargate: Universe, I think it's the strongest of the three series (SG-1, Atlantis, Universe).

Why? Because I think the percentage of high-quality episodes across those 40 episodes is very high and that might make it the strongest in the franchise.

Out of the other 314 episodes (SG-1/Atlantis) are there equal or better episodes? Out of 300 episodes, I'd sure hope so, but you've got to sit through a lot of snoozers!

They're very different types of series, so maybe it's not a comparison as personal preference. SG-1 storylines are a lot more like Atlantis, than either is like Universe. That's not to say there aren't parallels, as Universe does have some similarities to Atlantis (on an unfamiliar vessel, stuck far away and even more cut off, and basically can only dial locally, even though "locally" changes on Universe) the storylines tend to be a bit differently written (even when plot elements are borrowed).

That said, I've thought it would be a hard watch if you've never seen the original two series and might not have the significance that it does if you don't know the nuance of the originals (I have seen them) and enjoy the guest stars and other references.

But others have posted that their non-Stargate friends tended to like SG:U better than their Stargate friends, so maybe that isn't relevant.

TBC, I define high-quality episodes as those that I really like Smilie

I always felt that was the ending they decided on (knowing it was ending). I didn't take it as a cliffhanger that needed to be solved at the start of another season. It did give them a launching spot if a 3rd season got picked up or someone else licensed the show.
