I love my 5300 - it's been running nonstop for the past 5+ years. I put this the last time there was a deal, but the 5500 I got last year for $117 had a terrible fan whine - I unfortunately had to return it. Really tempted to give this a try again but would hate to be burned again, and waste the Amex 40% too.

it's luck of the draw. the 5300 and the 5500 use the same basic fan. you just got unlucky that it was probably unbalanced or had a bad bearing.

and what Amex 40% ?? I am intrigued

"Carbon" filter is useless and OP has multiple model numbers posted, making it even more confusing about how this filter sucks compared to the real carbon models.

It's the exact same machine other than this one has the worthless fake carbon filter and slightly thicker HEPA, which is irrelevant compared to the other having real carbon.

The cadr is too low on HEPA filters. You are much better off with a box fan and a merv 13 filters. https://www.pscleanair.gov/525/DIY-Air-Filter
