I own a pair and came from the xm3's until they were stolen so I had to search for another. The main competitor is of course the xm5's and I chose these based off of reviews that showed they have slightly better ANC and comfort(mostly due to the earpads). I also think their design is attractive. I have enjoyed them a lot thus far however there are a couple knocks against it. The control scheme is lame as you have a touch sensitive control strip for the volume and another function if you hold it down which is one of the worst ways to control audio I've seen. It works decent in practice it's just a dumb design. The most staggering knock, one that I am not aware any other and headphone on earth has(besides bose), is that you cannot turn off ANC. The closest you can get to turning it off is to have a mix between ambient sound and noise cancellation via a slider between them both. If you never want to turn off ANC it doesn't matter but many people find scenarios they want them off (like when you are in a quiet setting or want less cabin pressure) and you cannot do this so there is always some hissing, audio processing, and cabin pressure. Why bose?

Wow good point, saw a lot of complaint about this on the internet.

Does the Sony app for these headphones have an option for turning ANC off or is there a button on the headphone itself that if you keep pressing it will turn it off?

Sony allows you to turn ANC on/off via the app

Not being able to turn off ANC is surprising since you can on the QC45s.

I have both the xm5 and this. I prefer the XM5's.

XM5's

Much better control interface
Better range

Bose
More comfortable
Looks more expensive
Better build quality
Slightly better ANC
Horrible controls (try to skip a song with it)
Not as reliable (one of the earcups lost the ANC. I had to smack it and it came back, then the wear detection went out one time when it thought I had taken it off)

Just got my refurb in. Throughly inspected and can't find a single scuff or scratch. Brand new packaged charger. I'm really impressed with the updated fitment of the headset in the molded case in comparison to the QC45s where they simply sat in the case and could rub together when hauling.

To those that say you can't turn ANC off. You can in the app. There's multiple profiles you can select, customize, and even create your own. ANC for each one is independent and adjustable via a slider from 0-100%. You can quickly cycle through the modes you have set up by using the multi-function button on the right ear cup.

As far as the touch volume control on the right ear cup being less than ideal- I do not have this issue. I don't have a problem finding it, or adjusting it like others have mentioned. Although, if you did have that issue a secondary volume control option would be your phone volume up, or PC for whichever device you are connected to.

Very pleased with the purchase overall and will be selling my QC45s and using these exclusively.
