Depends on your situation. Do you need another HDMI input? Want slightly more power? Does "Made in Japan" carry weight for you?

My take is that the 3800 is the "Slickdeal's darling" because it's 90-95% of the 4800 w/o the additional hundreds of dollars (they even share the same DAC and have the same Dirac functionality)!

Good old Amir. The differences between modern DACs are well below the threshold of human hearing. Test benches though can reveal some differences, plus I'm sure there are differences in the noise floor, etc., between different individual units. It's probably about the absolute last thing you should worry about while building out your system. Different speakers, subs, displays, etc., are where you should worry about individual performance, along with your room, treatments, etc. Those things will absolutely make a very noticeable difference. DAC's maybe your dog can tell the difference.

This is tempting. Any reason to get a 4800h over this?
More power.

Proper placement of a sub is critical for optimal performance.
Now this can be a challenge in the average home especially if the sub has a large footprint.
Often you have to compromise and make it work the best you can.

A sub crawl is a good idea and kind of do it the way you did just listen where you would realistically be willing to place the sub.
Run Audyssey and if it sounds good to you, you're done, that's all that matters.

I would highly suggest using the $20 editor app preferably on a tablet/laptop.
Allows you to make adjustments you normally wouldn't be able to, worth the cost imo.
So I've been looking at a 2nd sub.

Currently have the older PSA XS30. (15" sealed)

Looks like you should buy same type. Like all sealed or all ported.

Is there a big difference if say I plan to get SVS SB3000 (15") to go with existing sub?

Not sure how much they need to match.
I know that it's best to get same exact sub make and model.

But prior budgets didn't allow that.

Also seems ported is better for mainly movies which I use most of the time.

As you can see that is a big can of worms with many different beliefs.

Yes ideally exact same subs, if not at least same type imo.
Integrating/harmonizing subs is crucial and easier if they exactly the same imo.

Can you get away with different brand/type, yes but will take some work for optimal integration and performance will be dictated by the least performance one.

I run two SB3000 in a treated dedicated HT layout and regularly get people shocked and say I thought sealed were only for music and not good for HT! 😁
Keep in mind all 9 of my speakers are full range/reference speakers.

BTW the SB3000 is a 13", closest to 15" would be the SB16-Ultra.

Nice dual SB3000's!

I may just get a similar matching 15" from PSA again. Not urgent just making sure I look for the correct type of sub during holidays that will be arriving soon.

Until then. I'll need to run XT-32 on my setup and especially the sub.

Been looking at base videos and I may try the lower sub level on avr setting but increase gain on subwoofer to get more of an umph.

We'll see.

Yes the performance they produce with that small footprint is pretty impressive!
Even bass head friends & family are shocked & impressed! 😁

I would suggest doing the sub crawl trying like the top two placements.

I would also suggest the opposite, set sub level around 11 o'clock, make adjustments on the app. Good luck
