I'm typing my message on this exact Chromebook. I bought it for $250 back in the summer. It has been great, though as mentioned above, a backlit keyboard would be nice.

It comes with a year of Gemini Advanced and 2 TB of storage. When I tried to activate the offer, I got a cryptic message about my account not being eligible. After a useless exchange with Google Support that took over a week, they ended by saying the device was not eligible. English comprehension ain't their strong suit! I finally figured out that it was because my Google account was part of a Google Family group. I had to disassociate the account to activate the trial.

You can re-create the Family Group after activating the trial and share the 2 TB. I saw a message that you can only do this once a year. It looks like they updated and clarified the terms of the offer to mention the problem I encountered.

Recommended. I installed their Linux support and can run Signal Desktop, Brave and Reaper in that environment.

On the question about media, the internal speakers don't get too loud, but they're fine along with the mic for Google Voice calls. The headphone jack works well with my KRK headphones, plenty of volume and clear. I can cast from Chrome, YouTube and YouTube Music to my TV with Chromecast built-in.

Brightness is fine for indoors. I lower the brightness at night. Probably 200 or 250 nits.
If you're an existing Chromebook owner, check the perks that are available to you. This showed up in mine and takes $50 off this deal in my cart:

Anniversary Celebration of Your Chromebook
Here's to many more years on Chromebook. Celebrate with $50 off purchase of a new Chromebook at Costco.com - just for you or to share with a friend. Terms apply. Costco membership required to redeem.

Get perk

As a device for my elderly mother-in-law, I think Chromebooks are great. I used to get calls about malicious pop-ups and error messages all the time with Windows 10. With a Chromebook, I maybe get a call every 6 months or so. Best Christmas gift we could have gotten her (to preserve my sanity).

Even though the quality is a bit suspect, I might get it anyway because it comes with 1 yr Google One 2TB AI Premium. I don't care for the AI stuff, but I already pay for 2TB cloud storage. Which begs the question, as per details one has to redeem that Google One offer by Jan 31, 2025. But I have a subscription paid until April already. How does Google handle this? I assume it upgrades mine to the Premium plan right away, and then do I lose 3 months (assuming I wait until Jan 31)? Does anyone know?

I was wondering the same thing. Read through the reviews and saw more than a few that mentioned that issue. Seems to be too common an issue to be user error.

Costco used to frequently sell a similarly spec'd HP for the same price. I'm hoping they do so again in the future.
HP not so good. that is prob why.

It's a basic Chromebook. You only need 4GB of RAM. So look at it as you're getting 100% more than you need to surf the internet or use Google docs.
not anymore
ChromeOS has so much more features, that's why you don't see the 2GB RAM models anymore. My Chromebox has 16GB i7. wicked fast.

depends on the gmail acct you use to setup the device
my experience is that it always says
sorry you do not qualify for this offer
so if i want extra storage, i have to use one of my other less used gmail address
and then my sync and stuff is all not what i need lol

Chromebook sucks without navigation keys so you'll be using mouse a lot like some fat fingered lazy women at your work who you think should be the next to be terminated.
actually, if you learn the trackpad gestures, its pretty awesome
so awesome, i got a trackpad for my chromebox desktop
two finger swipe to go forward/backward web pages, scrolling
three finger tap to open link in new tab, pinch/zoom all the other stuff you would expect with touch
way better than using a mouse imo
