These are a better deal than the Rand or Pamp bars previously at 2799. Not an AMAZING deal, but definitely better. Eagles and buffalos fetch an even better premium of $40 over maples from my local shop here. So eagles and buffalos at 2799 would be a better deal if they become available again soon.

Depends on where you live. Often times there are thresholds.

I had been thinking of getting a buffalo and finally pulled the trigger in September, which seems to be the last time they were available. Go figure. Has there ever been as long of a stretch where Costco didn't sell them? Also would you say these maple leafs are the second best in terms of re-sell compared to the buffalos?

Any one of their bullion items will go in and out of stock regularly. With the big advancement in gold prices the source that costco uses for bullion has probably been out of stock or able to fetch higher prices in more retail settings. I do think maples are second behind eagles and buffalos both in terms of price/resell value and desirability. I would not limit yourself to just one type though. Price versus resell value is the biggest factor. I would absolutely stay away from smaller sizes than 1oz though.

Added Costco Precious Metals Wiki/FAQ to the top. Scroll up if you want to read it.

I actually bought in on this one. Value analysis:
- Costs $2658.24 if you get 2% executive and 2% credit card cash back.
- JM Bullion will buy it for $2678 as of right now.
- So, a negative twenty dollar transaction cost. Nice.

For my specific deal, I traded ETF shares for physical gold:
- Sold 52 shares of IAU gold ETF from my IRA for $2669.6
- Bought this for $2769.00
- Getting 2% executive for $55.38 cash back
- Getting $131.25 cash back (5.25% of first $2,500 of online purchases from BofA customized cash card)
- Getting $2.69 cash back (1% cash back on the amount over $2,500 - I could have optimized this better by using another card.)
- Getting $300 bonus cash back for the first $1000 spent new card bonus
- Getting 14 months more of zero interest on that card, which I will invest in a HYSA at 4-5%, so about $100 or so interest income on that.
- Bought 37 shares of IEFA (international index ETF) because I have to keep IRA money invested.

Now I have to wait until the next quarter for my 5.25% category to reset before buying another ounce.

Including one-time discounts like CC bonus isn't a great analysis. You could capture that $$ various ways. You could extend that saying something like.... open 9 CC's that have $300 bonuses and VOILA the gold is free.

You are right, but that second part wasn't an analysis. It was an anecdote (which may be repeatable for others).

True, the $300cb is not repeatable for me, and the 14m interest free will be 11m interest-free next time I do this.

The ETF sales are also only repeatable until I run out of shares of IAU. After that, I'll probably stop buying because gold is just so damn expensive right now. Those IAU shares were purchased in 2013 when gold was much lower - about $1200-1300 or so for about a 7% annualized rate of return.
